<p>In all honesty, you might want to consider business as a graduate-level goal. Going into business after getting a management degree in undergrad doesn't hold as much promise. If you do though, I definitely recommend UCI.</p>

<p>taniuxka20 - The admissions department at mba schools might want to see prospective students with a variety of degrees. However, that being said, the schools also look at your work experience, GMAT scores, volunteer work, etc.. so your undergrad degreee is just one factor.</p>
<p>But I wouldnt underestimate the value of an undergraduate degree in business. Businessweek recently published their annual list of top schools for a BA in business and let me tell you, the BA in business is not going anywhere anytime soon. Even some of the lower ranked schools are showing impressive starting salaries.</p>
<p>If you want to know more about how MBA programs would view a student with a BA in business, the BEST way to get an answer is to call your local MBA admissions department. Good luck</p>
<p>If you want to go into business take Economics or Business Economics. With those majors you learn how to think and apply those theories to your job after college.</p>
<p>I'm interning at a hedge fund right now and when I was applying to schools in the fall the director helped me pick the major for each school. He said at UCI majoring in business economics would be perfect for doing what I want to (which is the hedge fund industry). That's what I'm going to be doing in the fall and I might minor in management or criminology.</p>
<p>la_demolition is more experienced in this sector so I put my hands down to him. However, being a child from the silicon valley, most tech companies rather not hire a person with a BA in management to manage a bunch of engineers. They don't really trust such new blood to manage. Instead they like to find workers who gained experience and/or grabbed their MBA after some experience to work as a manager. Microsoft, however, likes to hire young blood to manage their company. You might want to look there. </p>
<p>Grabbing just an undergrad degree in business management just seems very unstable imo. Getting a job isn't exactly as easy as, let's say, engineering. Also, I've heard MBA schools look favorably upon other majors over business management unless it's from one of the top schools (i.e. UCB).</p>

<p>They said it would be available for fall 2007 iirc. (At the destination UCI thing)</p>

<p>The catch is they said it would be very selective to start out with (something like 10 students).</p>

<p>It seems to support what I've heard, and there are no amendments changing the proposed effective date, so I'm inclined to believe it. What you should really do is just call admissions and ask.</p>

<p>In a nutshell, the Chancellor offered a highly regarded liberal law professor from Duke the Dean position at UCI's new law school. After UCI's conservative donors heard about it they put pressure on the Chancellor who caved in and retracted the offer. After public outcry and some bad media coverage the chancellor offered this guy the position again and he accepted yesterday.</p>
