Hi guys!
So I just got rejected from my first choice school and I am probably gonna get rejected from the other schools I applied to as well (they’re all reaches). I got into Isenberg EA and it’s probably where I am going to end up going. I was wondering what’s the job outlook for business majors graduating from UMass? Will going to a state school limit my opportunities?
IMO Isenberg is a good business school, ranked #1 public in the Northeast including NY, and has good job placement stats. I’m instate and a good amount of people from my school get denied from Isenberg but the ones that do get in usually end up with a better than average starting salary (the one’s I know of anyway)
Make sure you take more than the minimum in statistics and include gently eds with a lot of writing even if your instinct is to do the opposite
These two skills plus internships will serve you well.
thank you!!
I absolutely hate writing but I guess that makes sense haha
My daughter is a sophomore at Eisenberg majoring in Finance and Econ. She already has an internship lined up for the summer in the finance dept at a Tech company in Cambridge. The other interns are from Cornell, MIT and Temple. I’m sure she will have no problem holding her own!
Just to chime in on this a bit, if you were going for any state school in MA, Isenberg would be your best bet. I would say you would have as good of a chance at job placement as anyone going to Northeastern or maybe BU (probably not as good as say BC or Bentley). However, you gotta remember that what you end up doing after college all depends on how you use the opportunities given; you can go to an Ivy league and end up without a job if you don’t take a hold of your opportunities. We have our own Career Center (separate from the general UMass one), access to a program that makes building a professional resume easy, and access to IsenbergWorks, which is a separate Internship/Job search engine from the general UMass one. In short, we have access to a lot of resources that nobody else at UMass has access to. Honestly though, you’d be fine wherever you go as long as you’re smart about what you’re given.
@BladeHunter thank you so much
UMass sounds like a great place, I was just too caught up in rankings. I’m visiting in April so I hope I like it!!
@katross98 You will do just fine. I am the CMO of a tech company in Boston (with a S who is deciding on which college in the next two weeks!). Isenberg has a very good reputation in the Boston area for sure. As with any school, the placement success will rest on you. Take advantage of all of the things that @BladeHunter mentioned and be ready to push hard on the networking. Good luck on the rest of your decisions!
that’s awesome!
thank you, I’ll try my best!
Depends what you want to do, “business” is extremely vague. If you want to go into I-Banking for example, you have very bad chances
