Business major

Does anyone know if the business school at TTU is any good.... I know its not know for its business school but a big percentage of students major in it like most other schools....

Tech's Business School was renamed as Rawls College of Business for a donor who gave $25 million a few years ago. Part of that $25 million has funded a career center that is only available to business majors (the university has its own career center as a whole). The business career center appears quite aggressive in bringing potential employers (and internships) to Tech. The Honors Program in Management is led by a young Phd who got his doctorate at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, one of the top business schools in the country.

Second the idea that business school is sound. My compnay mid-sized NYSE company recruits and goes to Tech business, we certainly have Tech business grad we have hired. I am a technical type--and proud alum. .. i also have kids looking at College - Tech is a consideration (NMF,etc) as wella s others.

Especially if you are in texas Tech is very worthy of your consideration

Keeping the thread alive for the college application season.

overall the business school is okay. Some areas are clearly better than others, however. What area are you considering?

I was thinking about finance, but im really keeping an open mind so this might change. What are some of the positives and negatives of the business school? and What is TTU known for? (like what majors...or schools)

I was MIS. The program has gone down the toilet. If you want business, choose accounting or finance.

Engineering, technical writing, philosophy, and financial planning are excellent.

History used to be great, but there has been a mass exodus of professors.

The business school is relying more and more on group work. While this is good for resumes and builds teamwork experience, it can be overkill do to the amount of outside time required. I had multiple semesters where ALL of the classes had large group projects.

The business school has its own career center that is very nice. The building itself is old. There is talk of getting a new one, but that is a long way off.

Writing isn't emphasized enough.

Are you from the Lubbock area?

Dallas area....but thanks so much for the info

DFW has a cheap community college system. Frankly, I'd take the general requirements there and then transfer. DCCC's tuition is $33/hr for Dallas county residents. At Tech, after adding fees and books, tuition averages from $150-$220/hr depending on the major. Business, enginnering will have higher fees compared to english, history, philosophy. By going to a community college you'll save thousands of dollars. Instruction is also better at the JC. Less foreign TAs with thick accents.

My monthly post until the end of the application season.

Great undergraduate program...they will soon be breaking ground on a $70 million building. http://www.rawlsbusiness.ba.ttu.edu/
