Hey everyone! I'm a transfer who got admitted for the Fall 2013 and was wondering if Accounting firms heavily recruit from UCSC?

Yes, you just need to do well in your classes (high GPA) and get some extra-curricular/work experience under your belt and you’ll be fine.

Would a minor in Technology and Information Management help in my r

It would probably be better if you took more accounting class to qualify to take the CPA exam than having a minor that doesn’t really relate to the field. Although if you’re comparing two exact candidate for the job and one has the minor. the person with the minor would look better.

I’m in the exact same boat, I’m going to take all the accounting course I can and get the minor also.

ps. don’t steal my job :P

It depends on the position. Most hiring managers don’t care about minors (they barely pay attention to your major). If they do care, it’s probably for minors such as statistics/math/computer science. If you actually learned something USEFUL with that minor, then that’s where it can help. Comp sci students can list all the programming languages they are proficient in, stats students can list the stat programs they use, etc. Employers are more interested in your work experience and qualifications.

Just don’t add minors/majors that might lower your GPA. I’d rather hire a student with a 3.7 majoring in econ rather than a student with a 3.4 majoring in econ and minoring in information management (assuming all else is the same).
