I’m on my second year, third quarter soon. I’m currently a Chemistry major and originally planned to go for medical school just for the money. Now I’ve realized that’s a bad idea and decided to change major. I’ve narrowed it down to either Business or Economics. At this point I’m getting a lot of mixed messages from friends and the internet, making it hard for me to decide. As of now I don’t know which one to pick.
Judging by the subject, I understand that Economics to Business is like Physics to Engineering, one is more theoretical and the latter practical. Thus comes the conclusion that Business offer a higher chance for landing decent jobs. On the other hand, many claim that Economics is much more versatile for many different careers, and in that way offer more opportunity.
Personally Economics requires way less classes to graduate (my AP credits covered most of lower division). Business would require me to almost start university over. Note that I’m no more interested in one subject than the other, and would take those extra classes for Business if it end up to be the more useful major.
What jobs can I expect with an Economics degree in comparison to Business? For those with experience, what’s a general idea and progression for each career path?
