I noticed that only 3 schools in the top 10 have undergraduate business programs. Is there a reason that the other 7 don't? Do they prefer students who don't have that much of a background in business before being admitted to their MBA program?

I was confused when I saw most UC's don't have undergrad business programs, but I didn't know a majority of the top 10 schools didn't either until last week.

I won't be able to major in business in California because of the budget cuts and I wouldn't be able to graduate in a timely fashion since it's almost impossible to get the classes you need now. CSU Sacramento advises that you "crash" courses because space and courses are so limited now so I'm going with a major that is less popular there, but pretty challenging (Economics). Economics is not in the College of Business.

I'm being realistic about my chances so I am not looking to go to one of those schools in the top 10, but I still want to go to a good one since my goal is to become a Logistics Manager or a Warehouse Manager one day. I considered other concentrations in business but as I got older, I realized they are not me. They interest me, but as far as career goes, not something I'd enjoy as much. Part of it is that my Dad was a warehouse/logistics manager and was VERY good at it; he put them at their peak as far as performance goes and helped them expand. He had good pay, stock options in the company, and a company car. Once he left, that company went completely downhill. I'd like to have that same kind of success in a job like that.

If I could get my grades up when I can focus on JUST major courses after I finish my general ed., could I get into a decent school with those goals, the educational background, and work experience in warehousing and putting an econ. degree to work in a bank temporarily? I have a 2.5 overall gpa because my G.E. science classes killed me.

Most top schools don’t have business schools. Kids just major in economics.

An advisor once said that if you major in economics thinking it’s the closest thing to business (if your sch don’t offer business), be prepared for disappointment. I found that to be true… :(

G.E? as in high school GE, transfer GE… u shld place your stats so that people can give better advise

General Ed. science classes killed me.

Is it really that bad to major in Econ. assuming it is the closest to business? What about for gaining experience after you graduate from college before you apply to MBA programs because I know work experience is huge as well when it comes to being admitted?

My overall GPA is a 2.5 because of some classes, I had brain surgery a few years ago to stop me from having seizures and my brain never fully recovered from that either, but I’m working on it and still and hope to increase my GPA to make up for my time trying to recover from that.

In business classes, I got C’s in Financial and Managerial Accounting, and a C in Macroeconomics but plan on retaking Financial Accounting and Macroeconomics. I took Intro to Business and Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship. I got a B and an A in those courses. I just choked on Accounting and Econ exams even though I understood the material.

I am very interested in history. I’ve taken 2 American History classes; 1 class from the 1600s to the Civil War, which I got an A in, and from Reconstruction to today, which I got a B in. I also got a B in political science. So I might do history since what you got your undergrad degree in doesn’t matter as much as I thought it did. I read they are interested in people with Liberal Arts type degrees. I don’t know how true that is though. I kind of thought of that because a professor that I took 2 of those business classes with got a degree in Ethnic Studies, but then got an MBA and a JD.

How good of a route to a business school for graduate studies is it to do your undergrad in history if you’re very interested in it?

My head has been spinning for the past year because I do not no where to go or where I’m going so any advice from people who know about this and/or have been in the same spot would be great.
