I’m a current high school junior, thinking of studying marketing, and Cal Poly is pretty high up on my list of schools to apply to. Can anyone vouch for the Business Administration major? I visited the school a few months ago, and really loved the people, vibe, and location, but didn’t learn too much about the business program.

Business is a good choice, but I personally wouldn’t chose marketing as a concentration. The business school offers a lot of clubs and opportunities to get involved with your major. Paul Orfalea (who the college is named after) came here to talk last week which was kinda cool. Try to take as many AP’s as possible next year so that you don’t have to take sucky GE’s like the basic English class. Also, try to get some experience before you even start college. If you want to go into marketing, find a marketing firm or in house marketing department at corporation. Don’t be afraid to email them and see if you can shadow someone for a day cause you’re interested in possibly majoring in marketing. You don’t want to chose a major only to find that you’re actually not all that interested in it.

I’m currently working on getting an internship at a marketing firm, for the exact reason of seeing if I want to go into marketing in the future. Thanks for the help!
