So Cal Poly is my number one as of now and I’m freaking out about it…
I really want to major in Business there.
SO BADLY.
I’m a junior in high school.
I have a 3.6 overall gpa (4.1 uc gpa; i did average (all b’s) freshman year)
I just got my first job, hopefully getting one in the beginning of senior year, i just started volunteering and SAT scores were a 1950

What are my chances of getting in you think?
What other good business schools are there in california.
HELP ME PLEASE.

I don’t really no what numbers people have going into business, but I think that what you can do now that will have the biggest impact is to study for the SAT and retake it in the fall. Without the score I got the second time I took the SAT I don’t think I would have been admitted. I don’t think things like work and volunteer matter much and they are all self-reported.

You have a shot, but no guarantee. Cal poly has cut admissions this year, often denying people with 4.0’s and 2000 on the SAT. Also business admin is impacted at cal poly so it requires pretty good stats to get into. I’d say you got like a 65%-70% chance of getting in.

Is it because of over qualification? The 4.0 and 2000s?

I was just admitted to Cal Poly for business with a weighted GPA of 4.3 and an SAT of 2090 but my friend was waitlisted with a 4.1 and a 2100. There were also two people who didn’t get in and had 4.0s as well (but I don’t know their SATs.) Business is an impacted major at Cal Poly so it might be difficult to say whether it’s a safe bet for you

There is no such thing as “over qualification”. It comes down to major and space available. I strongly suggest that you keep up your grades, but more importantly take the ACT and hire a professional tutor with a track record of getting improved scores. Make sure that the tutoring service shows you documented evidence that they are as good as they say and make sure that they have a process to guide you through. Cal Poly states on their web site that they accept the SAT but prefer that ACT. My kid took both and only reported the ACT to Cal Poly and he got accepted. By the way he fell into the “over qualified” category so I know that it is a rumor.
