Hey Everyone,
First off, I would like to say this this site is very helpful. Have gotten tons of info over the years.
I need help choosing my concentration at Cal Poly SLO.
I just got into their School of Business, and need help choosing.
Relevant facts about myself.

Transfer student, so entering as a junior.
4.0 GPA
Really enjoy working with people definitely a people person
Loved everything I have taken was hard to narrow down, but finally decided on Business as it seemed the most practical for undergrad besides engineering.
Love Biology and Kinesiology
Want to own my own manufacturing business
Good public speaking/writing skills
Want to stay on the central coast of Ca.
Ultimately want to be a community college instructor.

Here is a link to the list of concentrations:

[Undergraduate Programs ? Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo](http://www.cob.calpoly.edu/undergraduate/)

I have kind of narrowed it down to: #1 Human Resources and Management ( most practical/ applicable to real life?), #2 Information Systems (is there a lot of interaction with people?). #3 Marketing (like the creative aspect, but too pansy?), but I am open to argument for any concentration.
Please help me, as this is a very difficult decision for me. Also good minor to pair with?
Thanks!

@OP
The two most relevant things you say for choosing a major are these. Therefore, I would choose Entrepreneurship as your concentration. Then I would pair it with either Accounting because it is the language of business or Marketing as that will help you sell. Just remember that Marketing is nice and fun but, it is SALES that drives a company. Marketing is a Sales support discipline. No sales, no revenue, no company.

With regards to the teaching thing, you need to be a successful entrepreneur in order to teach for credibility and personal financial reasons. Plus, you need a job that will allow you the flexibility to make your own hours if you want to teach on the side.

I’m a Business major myself, but on the accounting side. I don’t have a lot of knowledge about other concentrations, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Judging from the fact that you are a people person, good at public speaking, and good at writing, marketing seems like it would fit you perfectly.

Are there any current students still on here? Is there anyone in the Information Systems concentration? Heard the prof’s are a little behind the times…Any comments??

@heyitsmee: I was looking at the information systems concentration just out of curiosity, and it doesn’t seem as strong as some of the others. That being said, if you’re interested in it, it might still be worth it do it, but I’d definitely recommend doing a computer science minor or something to go along with it. I personally haven’t met anyone in that concentration, but I’ve heard that some of the teachers are kind of boring.

Hey there, I just finished my 3rd year here and am an Entrepreneurship concentration. I’d say if you have a passion for entrepreneurship (in a sense of being a bit more flexible and wanting to start your very own business, etc), then I’d say it’s the perfect concentration. The only real full-time faculty for Entrepreneurship is Dr. York and brings with him nearly 30+ years experience in the private and corporate world. I’ve taken all the concentration courses and can say they really shaped how I think about Business in general. Nowadays, whenever I visit any type of business (i.e restaurants, groceries, shopping), I always analyze the business and see what the pros/cons and if there are any ways to improve on. lol. I’m probably now just boosting about my concentration but it really is a great concentration offered and highly recommend researching the other concentrations as well.
