Business School Confusion

Hi! I know that UMich and UVA have undergraduate business programs in which the student must apply after their first year. I was wondering how likely the chances are acceptances, and how the best way to approach it is. I also realize that there is a Preferred Admissions for Exceptional High School students, which isn't exactly me, but it sounds interesting. It be would be nice to hear from current Ross and McIntire students! But I would also just like to get some opinions on other school options for undergraduate business programs? Please feel free to share any information you have on this!
Also, what kinds of leadership position options are available for college freshmen?

I think you should look at Babson College.

<a href=“Babson vs Ivy - Babson College - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/babson-college/55878-babson-vs-ivy-p1.html</a></p>

Look at University of Dayton.

Look at the three B’s. In addition to Babson, there are Bently and Bryant.

Also there are plenty of colleges will let you get into the Business program directly, they are as good as Mich. and UVa. NYU Stern, USC Marshall, just name two and plenty others.

What is the state of residency? and stats?

@tarak6644, my son is going into his Sr. year at Ross. The acceptance rate for Soph yr. admittance has dropped to about 40% recently. But most think that if you are determined, are able to get a 3.6+ GPA freshman yr., do at least that well in the required classes, take one extra analytical course (e.g. Stats, Econ,) and write a good essay, your chances are very strong. Many apply and just are not qualified.

BTW - because of the Ross placement department, it is as good as advertised. They are outstanding; coming out of his summer internship, my son just accepted his full time IB position starting next summer after he graduates.

My D has two friends who are good students but did not get into Ross at UM. I don’t know how they did freshman year. Personally I think it is highly preferable to go to a school with a direct admit to the b-school but many people like UM and UVa and take a chance. Some direct admit options offhand are NYU, USC. Villanova, Notre Dame (I think), BC, Cornell, Fordham and Lehigh to name just a few. You can go through the USNWR list of undergraduate business schools and research which ones have direct admit programs. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/business-overall</a></p>

I don’t have stats for UVA and Michigan, but Berkeley’s Haas program typically enrolls about 45% of the applicants.
There are strict prerequisite requirements. I’m sure programs at UVA and UMich are similar.

Students that don’t go into the undergrad business program, usually become economics majors - which I personally feel is a better undergrad degree anyway, especially if your ambition is an MBA later on.

Indiana has a direct admit program. Good program. Also UMinn
