American University seems like the perfect fit for me-- perfect size, location, and people. I want to major in either Accounting or Finance, and my dad is concerned that American University does not offer a great business program. My number one concern is getting a job after college, and my dad is not sure that AU has the right business program to successfully land me a job in this economy. But I really fell in love with the school and I was wondering if any of you have any advice??? Thanks!

Kogod is the oldest business school in DC, and has successful alumni like Gary Cohn (President and COO of Goldman Sachs). AU is a target recruiting site for companies like Deloitte and Touche (Finance and accounting firm)

Okay thank you.
Anymore opinions?

Where is ckingston9 at? He could tell you more about it as a current kogod student.

My son just finished his freshman year at AU in Kogod. He intends to major in either Accounting or Finance also, just like yourself. A year ago, when he was deciding, Kogod was ranked #28 in business by Business Week, appearing on the top 100 list for the first time ever. However, this year, it was not ranked because there were not enough respondents that completed the questionnaire about Kogod so I can’t say that it is still highly ranked.

The other reasons my son chose Kogod were - strong commitment of AU to Kogod to expand (new building, new trading room with equipment that is the same as what Goldman Sachs uses, expansion of faculty), accessible/friendly faculty/administration, strong internship program with deep connections in the DC area. My son has had a good experience his freshman year (although he only had one Kogod course- Business 1.0.) The only downside is that they don’t let you take courses other places - he wanted to take Microeconomics at Rutgers but found out it wouldn’t count.

Their Accounting graduates supposedly have high placement rates - I don’t know the stats tho - I supposed you could call the Career Center and ask what they are.

How about Kogod’s marketing and international business programs?
