Does anybody know the quality of Kogod school of business? Does AU have a strong business program?

Our D just graduated from AU this month with a degree in Business with an accounting focus. She was very pleased with the program and the advising is amazing. She has had lots of help with internships. This summer she has a paid internship with a major accounting firm which will likely turn into a full time offer after she finishes her MS in accounting at AU next year. She actually got offered a number of different positions and most of her classmates found good options as well.

I attended AU last year and, even though I dropped out because I had a lot of problems with how the school is run, Kogod had nothing to do with that. Rather, Kogod was a part of the experience I enjoyed the most. Kogod is a very good school - I believe it was ranked 12th in the country for business either this year or last year by Forbes - and it has a LOT of helpful resources. It’s not the most difficult program - I mean, I got a 3.9 GPA without much effort - but it’s definitely worthwhile. I feel as though a lot of the things you learn are through the activities you participate in, such as the New York trip they arrange and the networking receptions they hold, rather than the classes themselves (although the classes are still good. I learned a lot in Financial Accounting especially, since I hadn’t done much accounting before.)

My favorite part of their building is the finance lab that is located on the basement level. The finance lab is loaded with computers that each have $2000+ worth of business and finance software, including Bloomberg, loaded onto them. Kogod also provides useful services including a center for business writing and a career center unique to business students.

Overall, I definitely recommend Kogod if you want to go to American. Just make sure American is the right school before you make your decision, or you’ll be stuck in between schools like I am. But yeah, to clearly answer your question: AU definitely has a good business program. No qualms about that.
