Business Study Abroad

I'm spring admit freshman to Leventhal School of Accounting. I have always been interested in study abroad program. I was looking into Marshall School of Business study abroad program and realized there is no program in Japan. I know that anyone can still participate in study abroad program provided by Dornsife, but would it be possible for accounting major to participate in Dornsife study abroad?? Or would it only waste money and time without getting useful credits?? I would love to study in Japan but if it's not possible, then I'm only considering it as a possibility.

Marshall offers study abroad programs in many countries. The only program that includes Japan, according to their last brochure, is the ExCEL program. It is an opportunity to travel and meet with executives and/or government officials. It is a focused, but short travel experience.

The university offers overseas study in 29 countries. There are 53 different programs. Study in Japan includes Nagoya and Tokyo.

Study abroad opportunities include the expected London, Berlin, Rome and Paris. Some students choose destinations which have a different appeal such as: Caicos Islands; Yungaburra, Australia; Accra, Ghana; Dunedin, New Zealand or Aberystwyth, Wales.

Not even close to impossible. You can study abroad basically anywhere–yes, anywhere–you want if you put in the effort to make it happen. The specialized Marshall programs just make it really, really easy to transfer credits. Doing a semester abroad through Dornsife isn’t necessarily difficult.

It will make it MUCH easier if you are able to bring in a lot of credits when you start, and if you take requirements early. Don’t burn elective credit if you don’t have to!!! Studying abroad is cake if you don’t care about graduating promptly. If you do, just plan carefully.

I studied abroad in Asia when I was at Marshall but I did not bring any credits from high school so I had to plan carefully. I took two classes through a community college one summer to free up space.

I know the head of international programs at Marshall fairly well after having gone abroad through Marshall three (yes, three) times during my undergrad there. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

These are the study abroad destinations for business majors if you want to try to take your upper level business electives at a foreign business school:
[USC Marshall Outgoing Students](<a href=“USC Marshall”>USC Marshall)

Had I not been a transfer I would have most likely tried to study in Barcelona at ESADE.

Please read and notice it says you can’t take your business core classes abroad, only your upper level electives. This kind of sucks as an accounting major because you pretty much want and need to take your upper level acct classes at Leventhal due to US following GAAP and elsewhere following IFRS. If you are double majoring as business & accounting then you could do your upper level electives for the business major side abroad and upper level accounting courses back at Leventhal. There is also the chance you could study abroad through dornsife your first or second semester to cover some of your non-business/accounting classes.

You should consider emailing Sean O’Connel (contact info at bottom of that page) to ask him what he would recommend for you if you’re interested in Japan and are single majoring in accounting.
