Businessweek: Binghamton grads get $55K per year?

This seems a little silly. Binghamton got all Cs, including job placement, and yet their grads earn $55K right out of college?

Anyone know why?

cost of living?

It's in NY. But NYU grads only get $54K

Because $1k makes all the difference in the world.

Well NYU student at NYU you're probably paying over 200k in tuition so having less salary then Binghamton where you'd pay around 50k in-state is pretty heartbreaking.

It's quite a joke. I'm starting to doubt the effort businessweek put in to their rankings. According to their "rankings", recruiters ranked Binghamton No.86

That's because BW doesnt incorporate bonuses on top of the salary. You have to remember that NYU has lots of kids going into banking and their bonuses are equal to, if not more, than the base salaries they are getting (with bonuses and salaries sharply increasing every year they work).

I wanted everyone to know that I do not seriously think Binghamton is better than Stern in any way.

:)

Leos right, the bonuses are large.

Bonuses for Stern kids run between 50%-100% of their base salaries.

but our dear government takes 40% of the bonus :).

God damn that leech of the IRS!!!!!!!!! Screw this, I'm going to Toronto, the dear government there only takes 29% plus provincial taxes, or Hong Kong where they only take 15%.

all products are duty free in hong kong as well. that's economically beneficial to producers and consumers.

After Canadian government dips into your income
then IRS will once more dip into your income. (You get taxed twice if you're american citizen)

You can never escape from IRS.
It's been said that their intelligence system is way much better than FBI's or CIA's.

Yeah except I'm not an American citizen so I can just tell the IRS to back off.

Is this data (in this particular case 55K per year) provided by the schools? And if yes can schools lie about this and add some amount of money (say 10K) to the actual amount of salary per year?

As an accounting guy, let's be clear, the IRS (federal) top tax rate is 27% unless you are subject to the AMT. The problem is that you will also have to pay the NY state tax which is probably about 11%-13% at the top end (similar to California's).

If you are an accting guy you are scary. The top rate is 35% before AMT.
