I've been reading through threads about dorms and it seems that most people think that inside it is in crappy condition compared to other dorms...

But most of those threads are old, so I'm wondering: is that still the case? How bad is it?

I have a few friends who lived in Butler this past year, and I did not hear any complaints. From what I saw, it did not look to be in poor condition at all.

S loved being in Monroe and as a new freshman, appreciated how many friends he was able to make. It also had been renovated recently (this was 4 years ago) and except for the hall bathrooms, the rooms were actually pretty nice. Sharp was/is almost an identical clone of Monroe in terms of type of dorm. I’d heard that Sharp’s rooms have been redone within the past 3 years or so, although haven’t seen them myself.

Butler back then wasn’t in the best shape, but I thought I also heard that there had been some updating in there as well. S’s ex-girlfriend lived in Butler and didn’t seem to have issues with socializing at all :)

Sharp has definitely not been redone lately, but rumor has it that it’s supposed to be getting a makeover this summer. My opinion on this is pretty strong - you need to go where you think you’ll mesh with the people the most. For instance, Monroe/Sharp, more social. After the first couple weeks, it won’t really matter if you have your own bathroom with your suite or if you have to go to the community bathroom, or if the walls you’re looking at are white or brick. It doesn’t matter if you get an extra foot of room, or if it’s quieter in your dorm. There are always going to be nice, pretty, quiet places to go study, but there won’t always be a group of people just like you down the hall. Find the dorm in which you think people like you will live, and pref it!
