Buy review books now or wait till the school year starts to buy the new editions????

the title pretty much is my question

When will you start studying?

yeah i have the same question for ap euro i want to use the book for the oucrse as well and are each editions basically the same

Yes, editions are basically the same. Unless the format and content of the test just went through a major overhaul, there are no differences between books. Save yourself the money and buy older editions.

Confer with your teachers to see if they have any knowledge of the new edition undergoing drastic changes. If not, go ahead and buy an older one.

Changing the year on AP Preparatory books is a simple marketing strategy often used by these test prep companies like PR, Barrons, Kaplan, etc. They want people to keep buying their books. Otherwise, people who bought the 2009 edition of their books will have a hard time trying to resell or recipients of that book will be hesitant to use an outdated book. But the truth is that they really change content every 5 years or so.

Okay. So I did a test on this. I bought the 2008 AP Micro/Macro exambook and my friend bout the 2009 edition. SAME EXACT BOOK!!! NO DIFFERENCE!!!

Just buy older editions for most of them. If you’re taking APUSH i would order the Amsco book a bit earlier so that it will arrive on time :)

buy it now usually they don’t add anything to the review texts. History is history - it doesn’t change.

do you guys know if the 3rd edition is the latest cliffsap book for english lang? will they release a 4th edition for 2010?

I’d go ahead and buy them now, especially if you can get them cheaper. I know the 2008 and 2009 Princeton Review AP Calculus books are -exactly- the same. Same review, same practice problems, same tests.

Does it matter if the books are older than 2005?

tsubomi1993, generally it won’t matter. As long as the review book covers the topics on the exam you should be fine. From what I know, they rarely change these AP tests other than the actual questions of course. The topics covered are exactly the same year after year.

I would personally buy the older versions, as they are WAY cheaper. Probably under 5$. You know how people are - always wanting latest version.

where could you find the older versions? amazon? or do they also sell them at book stores?

@killer2021: thanks for your answer! I normally go on amazon and buy the older versions, and they’re a lot cheaper. :p

Buy Barrons and everything else now and get the new editions of PR from Barnes and Noble. If I’m not mistaken, there is a discount on the newer editions which are released on Aug 14th.

Sorry for reviving this thread.

Anyone know when the 2010 editions will be released? I checked Barron’s website and they don’t seem to be released yet.

@tsubomi1993,

lol yea that is a good idea. The textbook publishers normally scam people by releasing a new edition every 2-3 years with little content changes and then charging $100+ for the book. People think they have to buy the newest edition for the exam but they rarely change the actual topics covered. In other words, buy the older edition and save hundreds of dollars. Thats a little tip the textbook publishers don’t want you to know.

Same thing goes for the review guides - don’t buy the latest edition, its a waste of money.
