I am going to buy a MacBook before I go to college, and I am wondering if I should just wait until orientation and buy one at the UCLA Store. Do they ever have any discounts on MacBooks during orientation? I know my friend just got a really good deal on hers at her orientation (SFSU.)

as far as i know, it's just the normal education discount. think its $100 off for Macbooks. there's a big discount in spring quarter, though.....

the running discount is $100 off macbooks, but you don't need to be AT ucla to get that, you can buy it through the apple education store etc.

right now i wouldn't wait to buy it at UCLA because you won't get any better of a deal than the current promos ($100 off the macbook, a free iPod with rebate, and the other $100 off a printer promo).

i got my macbook last december because it was $200 off the normal price, but i'm not sure if that happens every year. besides, the current promos are far better. i wish i could get a free iPod :(

The store currently has a deal that the 2.4 GHz Macbooks are $50 less than the standard academic price. Same with Applecare but as said before if you don't need the laptop immediately you may see much better deals later on excluding the iPod which Apple seems to only do during the summer. You can check the site for specifics UCLA Computer Store

My friend bought a mac + free ipod (which is really a 250 dollar rebate), but he rebate was denied. lol....

Whaaaaaat?! they can deny your rebates?!

Rebates are generally a gamble. Something may go wrong in the mail, during processing, or maybe you didn't follow the instructions exactly in the fine print. That said my iPod rebate last year went though perfectly.

the big deal is the macbook pros. UCLA store frequently sells the higher model 15" MBPs for $1999. apple retail is $2499.

they have that going on now, plus the free ipod thing.

Actually, I just bought a Macbook and I got a free iPod and printer after rebate, and the rebate was the easiest rebate I've ever done. All I had to do was type in my name, address, and the order number (I ordered online) and it was instantly approved and I will be mailed to me within 3-5 business days. So from this experience, I'd have to say Apple's rebates are pretty safe.

Apple Rebates are pretty safe, I sent in my ipod and printer rebates 10 days after they were supposed to expire, and I still got my money no questions asked.
