BW vs Pace MT Class of 2022

My S narrowed his MT options to BW and Pace. Struggling to decide. Any advice? He is Actor/Dancer/Singer that highly values Acting training having auditioned for both MT and Acting. Accepted at MN Guthrie but concerned that it is first and foremost an Acting program with limited options to pursue continued MT training.

@threeboys I’d compare the acting training between the two. Last year I was told me Pace offered more acting training, so that may make his decision for him. My S attends BW, so feel free to PM with any additional questions.

@IfYouOnlyKnew - How do I PM back to you? Sorry, I’m newly back on this forum since taking a multi-year break.

@threepenny I sent you a message, but I just realized you only have 5 posts, so they may not let you respond to me. You can feel free to ask a question here if you can’t respond via PM.

@threepenny - can you PM back?

@threeboys my son will be attending BW MT in the fall. He loves the program. I would recommend that your son visit the schools before making any decisions.

@threeboys Have you compared the curriculum side-by-side?

@mommafaria - AWWW JACKETS! I hadn’t heard that he made a final decision! So excited for your boy. @threeboys - Pace and BW are both stellar programs - it really comes down to which one feels like the better FIT for your son - the suggestion to compare curriculums is a great one - and a return visit to both places might seal the deal for you. BW has definitely been the right place for my D - she has loved the music focused nature of the BM program.

@zebracocoa has a great point. These programs appear to be very different. I read somewhere on CC that one very wise mom pulled the curriculum lists for the schools their child was considering and had them look at them “blind” without knowing which was for each school. Might be an interesting exercise. We may have to try that one out too!

@speezagmom Right?! Love the idea about the blind comparison!

@speezagmom - great idea! And one I might do w my S this week!

We did that this weekend with two other schools. I wish I had thought to do it blind though, that is very clever

@threeboys I have a daughter at Pace and would be happy to answer any questions you have as well.

Great suggestion for the blind comparison. Definitely going to try this approach.

@threeboys I have a senior S at BW if you have specific questions. Awesome @mommafaria!

@speezagmom Thank you for the lovely compliment! I’ve been called a lot of things, but not sure wise has been one of them! LOL
Yes…I did the blind curriculum rankings for my S as we try to narrow down schools to apply to. He’s a Jr this year, and we will be starting this process soon!
I’ve learned so much from this board along the way, so I am truly glad that I was able to help contribute!

If you haven’t visited, I’d certainly do so - especially on the admitted freshmen days. While the curriculum and prestige of programs are important, I’d advocate fit of the school as even more so. After all, this is where he’ll be for four years and he should be happy about it! Pace and BW are very different in terms of location and type of college, so what environment would best help your son to grow? (Also, you know, finances…)

When my S had his three acceptances this time last year he had two BFA and one BA program. I did the blind comparison of curricula so to eliminate the stigma he had attached in his brain to BA vs BFA. He still ended up in a BFA program, but the blind comparison raised his awareness that it is more about the curriculum than the degree. Even his audition coach said early on in the process that when you go into a professional audition, they are looking at the performer, not the degree.
