By how much did you improve on the ACT? And How?

Please include previous scores and new scores.

September '09 ----> February '10
C: 31 ----> 35
E: 28 ----> 33
M: 34 ----> 36
R: 26 ----> 34
S: 35 ----> 36

Factors that increased my score: More knowledge from school, more practice, better practice tests, coffee, and luck.

Was the Sept 09 without prep hot?

Sept 09 was with 2 weeks of moderate prep
Feb 10 was 4 weeks of moderate prep, but last 2 weeks were intense prep

from 21 to 22 to 24 to 29

hotinpursuit…i got a 32 in september, looking for a 34+ in our required March test. I practiced a ton over the summer for the first test, so maybe i need coffee…what kind do you drink and how often…etc…

First time: 32
Second time: 31

Fourth and Fifth Time: 34
Sixth Time: TBD

I did nothing to be honest. I just went in and took the test. I guess maturity?

rofl mabs I got a 32 on my first try and a 31 in December…hopefully I follow your trend…lol

haha I had doubts after I got a 32 (on my third try)

but I thought

ehh w/e nothing to lose. I’ll give it another shot. I’m glad I made that decision :)

@JuBobo: How did you bring up your scores? And How long did it take you?

so you literally did no prep?

I’m taking a couple practice tests here and there, and i dont feel like i need to…did you do anything differently between your first 3 tests and the 4th and 5th?

nope

Well the summer went by but I doubt that did anything lol

I had already took all the practice tests (PR, Barrons, all the official tests I could get my hands on) before my first try. I did them again before the second try but I got lower somehow lol

But to put it in perspective.

The main thing killing my score the first 3 times was the science section (Well it still kills my score but not as much as it used to).

I got 26, 26, 27 in the Science section the first three time

The last two times I got 33 and 30 in the Science. I struggle with the time limits in the Science Section a LOT.

Ah, I see…

I did fine in Math and Science, but got 31s and 30s in Reading and English…so those are the main areas i’m working on for my next test

Practice practice. That is the answer.
My son got 27 (6 grade), 32 (7th), and 35 (8th).

35 in the 8th grade!

Wow. Im impressed.

Wow that is outstanding! But don’t ACT scores expire after 2 years?

no of course not

why would they expire??

@iamsocool

I literally took coffee for the 2nd time in my life on the day of the ACT.
I experimented with it the 1st time about a week before the ACT, and then I tried it on the day of. Looks like it helped.

I improved 2 points from a 29 to a 31 composite. I didn’t actually do anything more. I just went to school and actually learned more.

@hot

what kind of coffee? i need to get that 35! lol
