Im going to be attending UF for Fall 2011. Ive already browsed through UFs Roombug and noted a few people I thought I would be compatible with. Ive even sent friend requests to a few. Its been two weeks since Ive sent one to my top choice and one week since Ive sent another to my second with no reply from either. I realize that I cant hold out forever on getting a reply, but in anyones experience on Roombug, is this normal, or is there probably just not mutual interest? What is the approximate point in time where its likely that I wont get my housing preference if I continue to wait it out? If it helps any, I would prefer to live in East Campus, and my housing selection date is 6/23, according to last years data. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here! Thanks!

I’ve sent like 5 messages and even less friend requests. I got 2 friend requests accepted and 1 message back. I can’t imagine that they would just ignore people, but I did get a message back, so it wasn’t that the messages weren’t sent. I guess they’re just kinda rude.
As for your housing selection date, I saw mine was 5/28 and that was the first 1/4 of choosing dates, so yours is pretty late. However, in this topic (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/1136385-room-mate-preferences-dorm-types.html), someone said housing date goes by the earliest housing date of a roommate. So if you meet someone and they have an earlier date, it goes by their date.
Good luck finding a roommate. I’m still trying too ;o

I’m looking for a roommate.

OK why dont we start our own thread, to see if we can find a room mate here?

The way I see it. If we are on this site? It means that we care and are interested in having a successful college experience.

What do you think about my idea?

@gator4ever I think that’s a great idea. I totally agree.

Anyone here need a room mate for summer with a decent housing date?

Been looking for a room mate for days and no luck, hope I don’t end up with a horrible room mate! Anyone know anything about the Beaty Apartment Style dorms?

Jaredk,
I like to think that they dont check their facebook page that often. Its really hard to tell, though, since it seems like the people that I contact dont like to share information on their profiles. Their privacy settings also prevent me from sending a message, so I have no choice but to send a friend request. When I have to do that, I feel like I have to ask one person at a time, so that I dont end up rejecting people that I start talking to (even though Im learning how inefficient that method is.) It would be so helpful to know at what point in time the rooms start filling up so I can adjust my approach accordingly!

Gator4ever,
The idea sounds good in theory, but I dont know how many people I would find on CC that shared my interests. The Roombug App seems to draw from a larger pool of candidates, so it would seem more likely to find the ideal roommate. But, that shouldnt stop you from going ahead with the idea! I wish you the best of luck!

?? How do I look up my room preference date?? anyone ?

OK I will start. I am writing this for my son. Because he is at gradnight tonight.

I think the ?s on face book are something like these?:

Male, prefer Jennings but open to suggestions.
- clean room? yes clean but not obsessive about it. I can live with some mess, but not in a dirty room.

likes: running, sailing, Gator Sports, weightlifting.

I am serious about my studies. but plan on partying as much as I can get away with.

my major is Environmental Engineering.

music: Rock n Roll, some country. not too loud, but loud enough.

probably in bed by 11:30 on weekdays. Weekends who knows?

I am on facebook my name is Eddie R. Gomez

OK what else needs to be answered?

abikau, the way I see it try both and see what comes up.

IF NOT? Just wing it. I really believe that most of us are driven to succeed and pretty much know that we have to study and like to party. Of course some party more than others.

So I will try both and see what hapens?

Gator,

I’ll keep trying my luck with Roombug, but, you’re right; there’s nothing to lose by making profiles on both. This seems like a pretty active (sub)forum compared to most, so I would be interested to see how many posts that thread racks up. Hopefully your son can find a great roommate with your help! Good luck to you both!

Maybe you guys keep messaging people who think they are not compatible with you? For some reason I must attract extremely religious people who are obsessed with sports…however im bot rude enough to IGNORE THEM gosh I feel bad. However I found a really awesome non-rushing “nerdy” roommate! Maybe you all keep messaging really rude judgmental people!? Just don’t be afraid to message some people. I messaged people who I thought seemed pretty awesomely accepting of everyone!

They don’t reply there isent mutual interest, they don’t want too room with you no big deal. I will prob end up with random over fall I found a roomate for summer. I don’t think I will find a roomate on this website cause I plan on partying a lot. Hahaha
