Bypassing course prerequisite through credit-by-exam.

Has anybody done this? Can I bypass the prerequisite to a course by taking it for credit-by-exam instead? I'm considering self-studying for an Intro to Statistics course to get my math requirement done. That class requires Intermediate Algebra, and I don't want to waste a whole semester on a course that won't transfer.

Basically, I would not be able to enroll into the Statistics course, but I figure that prerequisites don't hold back someone from taking credit-by-exam, right?

Thanks in advance.

Since intermediate algebra is normally a high school level course, plenty of students bypass it by scoring well enough on math placement tests given by colleges.

If you’ve taken Algebra II in high school and passed, then show your counselor your grades and he/she should be able to override the pre-req. That’s what I did at my community college.
