BYU - Provo is becoming incredibly hard to get into. 3.5 GPA and above is the norm. I got in as a transfer with a 4.0, so I didn’t have any problems, but man, so many of my friends are getting rejected, and these kids are pretty smart!

Yeah it's kind of annoying, because it is actually a difficult school to get into but my high school didn't feel that way. If I didn't get in I would have died. But actually GPAs don't really matter. Like if you have a 3.5 and like a 1200 on the old SATs then you're not that smart. Different schools have different grading systems so....

True, true, far too much focus is placed on the SAT/ACT these days...I never messed much with the SAT though, I just took the ACT 3 times...:p of course in the end I didn't even need it...But oh well, I'm sure the experience was good for me.

What school did you transfer from? why did you transfer to BYU? I am nervous about going there and being surrounded by like suburban utahns

Kennesaw State University. Nice school, but not highly competitive or anything...I got in with my SAT's from when I was 15, and those weren't very good at all.

Why did I transfer, that's a large question. First of all, I enrolled at KSU knowing that I wouldn't stay there, but high school was boring me so I wanted to do something. Originally I was going to chalk the 31 hours I earned up to experience and apply elsewhere as a freshmen. After I didn't get into the Ivy League schools, I looked a little more down to earth and began looking at transferring somewhere. I looked at alot of colleges, most of which accepted me. Although I had a few weak Freshmen applicant areas, I was a strong transfer candidate.

BYU has everything I want. I didn't look at BYU first, I actually really didn't want to go in the beginning. But they have some of the best language programs in the world, an excellent English program, and AMAZING dance classes. They actually have rigorous academic programs. Those were all very important on my list of what I wanted.

There are some social reasons. I visited the campus and LOVED it. The people were pretty friendly. Granted, I'm sure there will be some obnoxious people. I will be frank and admit that some Utahan attitudes annoy me, but over all, I like alot of the people. Besides which, there are kids there from EVERYWHERE across the USA, so meeting fellow northerners and southerners shouldn't be a problem. Several of my friends are actually going. And, well, its BYU, there are dozens of AMAZING activities going on all the time.

There are some smaller reasons I want to go to BYU. I would like to look into publishing some books, and there are some mentors there that I would like to work more closely with. I can afford to go through their scholarships (since I have to find the money myself). I am also in love with their library :) I believe it is 3rd to Harvard and Oxford. Also, dumb as it is, it feels right. The other colleges didn't quite feel right.

So, rather long winded, but there you have it. My reasons for transferring. I don't think that being surrounded by Utahans will be a problem really. You will naturally hang out with the people you get along with. Although their international program isn't the largest, they have quite a few students from other parts of North America. Which dorm set are you staying in? I'll be in DT (cheaper para muah :) ).
