As this is an anxious time for many people, I’m interested in learning which colleges and universities (anywhere in the world) are doing the best at planning and communicating about how the institution intends to manage C-19 on campus.
I’ll kick this off by nominating Elon University. I happened across a Facebook video from Elon’s new president, Connie Book, and came away impressed by her calm reassurance, focus on community, and commonsense measures. The school also has a dedicated microsite set up about Elon and Coronavirus. This is in stark contrast to other institutions that are simply releasing emails.
What are you seeing?
I find this interesting as we are scheduled for an admitted students day at Elon on March 27th. Flights have been bought and hotel room has been booked. There has been no communication from the school that this event is being cancelled. Clearly if the school is closing and the website says no big events are being held, it’s being canceled. Then why are they not informing the admitted students who have registered for this event? I know numerous students from my D’s high school were planning on going. I know schools have a lot to worry about with their current students but they should also be cognizant if the students they are trying to fill their class with for next year.
Where did you hear that they are closing? In this video, she clearly states that staff will remain on campus. I am sure they will communicate if these events are indeed cancelled. Right now there is no C-19 at Elon.
Unless someone has taken time to read all of the communications from many/all schools in the US, I can’t imagine any opinion as to who is “doing the best” having any credibility.
