C in computer programming

My high school 1st semester report cards came out, and my final average for computer programming 1 is a 79. Comp prog is a half year course, and i’m currently taking computer programming II. I have a 100 in the class so far, and I am fairly certain I can maintain it (i’ve actually been properly doing the work this time around). I’m currently in my junior year, and I also plan on taking ap computer science senior year. I plan to major in aerospace engineering in college, and i’m wondering how this will affect my college admissions to top engineering schools such as Cornell, Stanford, Berkeley, etc. will the C affect my chances, even if I show drastic improvement through comp prog 2 and ap? The C was a pretty bad fluke, and i’m fairly confident I can maintain very high averages in 2 and ap.

“i’ve actually been properly doing the work this time around”

…suggesting you weren’t doing the work in the first round? If the C was a fluke, it shouldn’t have too much impact on your college applications. Just don’t make it a trend and you should be fine. You’ll need a 3.8 UW GPA overall to be competitive at the colleges you mentioned.

I have all A’s except 2 B+ fresh year, but they were both 89’s. I’ve taken all honors fresh, all honors and 1 AP soph and junior year 4 AP’s. SAT is a 1560, and decent ec’s. And yes it’s the only C, and i’m planning on making up for it with the next semester and senior year

If you can pull off an A or an A+ in computer programming 2 that will be a big help. We all make a mistake at some point. A good grade in programming for this semester is important to make it clear that you have learned from your mistake and really can handle the work well.

However, you also definitely need to spend time thinking about safety and match schools to apply to. “Cornell, Stanford, Berkeley” are reaches even for students who never got any grade less than an A or an A-.

You also need to avoid making the same mistake once you get to university, regardless of where you go.

Are you in California? Is Computer Programming even a a-g course? You should check. If it is not, you don’t have to report it in your UC app. (Unless you want to, under Other courses). For Common App though you need to report it.

I don’t know what g-course means. And yeah I do have backup schools these schools would of course be my reach schools I was just wondering if the C would make them out-of-reach schools lol
