<p>At my high school, drivers' ed class is a graduation requirement..although you could fulfill that credit by taking it through an agency outside of school. I chose to take it through the school my freshman year. The class was divided in two parts...lecture and lab (which was actual behind-the-wheel driving with the instructor). Only the lecture grade counted towards the GPA, though. I got an A in the lecture portion, and a WHOPPING C on the lab. I have really severe astigmatism (I can plead my case medically, because it's REALLY bad, my optomitrist says my condition is pretty rare) so it took me a really long time to learn how to drive. Granted, this was four years ago, so I'm a good driver now...though I still have trouble adjusting to different cars because of the whole depth-perception thing. The C didn't affect my GPA, but THERE'S STILL A C ON MY TRANSCRIPT and it looks really bad. Columbia should disregard it, though, right?</p>
<p>Especially considering that most people took it outside of school and didn't even get a letter grade that will be reported to colleges? They'll just laugh and think I'm a stereotypical asian woman, right? (haha, can you tell that I'm anxious?)</p>
<p>Your definitely not getting into Columbia because when they look at a transcript, they go straight to what you got in your Drivers Ed class. It directly shows how your going to fair in college. ;)</p>

<p>Btw, it’s fairly unlikely that anyone who has been driving for 1-2 years is a “good driver” – and such a person who got a C in drivers ed is clearly not so.</p>
<p>^^^oh really, do you work in admissions. You realize that MOST schools do not count gym/health into electives and when colleges see that they will discount the grade. ive seen proof, so stop crying</p>
<p>I went to CU and have done alum interviews for 7 years. I’d like to think I have some knowledge about basic information that you’d readily obtain if you asked any adcom.</p>

<p>You said that CU recalculates GPAs. They simply don’t – whether for PE or drivers ed or APs or anything else. Not sure what you’re rambling about.</p>
<p>Columbia2002 is absolutely correct. I’m not sure why people here are discounting the value of a PE grade or Driver’s ED class. Receiving a high grade in either class shows that you not only understand key concepts but you can follow directions as well and that’s crucial for admission. People generally receive low grades in classes for not only poor study habits but a lack of following directions and that is important for success in any elite school. Nuff said.</p>
<p>House of London…that’s the thing. I get As in my PE classes and I got an A in the drivers ed class. My C was purely for my drivers ed lab portion which was basically only based on six sessions of performance behind-the-wheel. So are you saying that CU is realy gonna take that grade seriously and doubt my attitude as a student?</p>

<p>^^ I mean, I follow directions and all and do my work, which is why I got the A in the class…I just had difficulty with the hand-eye coordination since driving takes so much depth perception and my eyes are virtually incapable of it.</p>
<p>And if it validates me at all, no one got higher than a B from my instructor anyway because he was a stickler.</p>
<p>They’re not and should never hold just one grade against you. Things happen and it may not be entirely your fault as to why you received the grade you did. It’s when it starts to become a pattern among different classes over the 4 years that admissions start to doubt your potential.</p>
