im also getting a bit worried cuz it said they’ll contact us by the 17th and its already the 15th O.o

I’m from Southern California, Claremont area more specifically (San Bernandino), and I was contacted by e-mail about an interview about a week ago. I had my interview yesterday.

I just got an email, my interview is on the 29th.

I didnt apply for this one but I did apply for the achievement award. approx. 1600 people applied and 100 finalists were selected for an interview and from those only 25 people were given the scholarship. I was one of them! Good luck to everyone and shout out to the class of 2014. LETS GOO!

recon_ind, I live in Rancho Cucamonga, right by Claremont, and I haven’t gotten an email yet :/

were there other people from Rancho at your interview as well?

@recon_ind, how was the interview? On the website it said its supposed to be only 20 -30 minutes and a couple of alumni. Should we dress formally just like for college interviews?

still haven’t been contacted and its already the 17th…i’m getting a bit anxious here O.o

Contact them by calling or sending them an email tomorrow if you still haven’t heard back

Ehh! I have my interview in 2 hours!
I’m confused on how to dress.
I’m a guy, so is it formal enough to warrant a tie and slacks?

It is better to dress formal when it is not expected than to dress informally when formal attire is expected.

in my email it said business casual.

Yeah, I saw that afterward.

Lol. The e-mail says a 20-30 minute interview with 2-4 interviewers. Mine was a 35 minute interview with a panel of 8 interviewers. I sat at this table in the middle of the room surrounded by 4 tables lined up infront of me. It was really frightening at first. Near the end, though, I was quite comfortable speaking.

Mine was 10 min on phone. i guess i’m not getting it! I was so nervous- I said “uh” so much and stumbled over my words.

my interview is tomorrow! ahh! i dont even know how much it’s for…i dont really care though…whatever. the worst part is embarrassing myself during an interview and not thinking of answer right away. but i can usually come up with SOMETHING…the lady seemed nice though

They threw some weird questions at me. Some, I took a long pause and started babbling like an idiot. One woman asked me to list as many attributes as I could that a leader has, and then describe how I’ve used all of them in being a leader. One, two, or three attributes would have been more manageable, and now that I think back to it, I could come up with better attributes, but it was somewhat hard to answer on the spot.
However, I think many of the questions are set to some rubric, so they’re all generic. I did get confused when another woman asked what leadership goals I plan on having next year. Leadership goals? I have many goals of what I want to do next year at Berkeley, but it’s not like I plan on taking over 20 clubs as a freshman and directing huge events. o.O So I just talked about clubs I plan on joining and things that interest me…

hahaha yeah i felt like an idiot too. dont worry. : ] or maybe i should put : [ hah

my alumni said that she asks the same questions to everyone and berkeley gave it to her so that everyone gets the same questions…meaning i got that question too about the 3 qualities. i said responsibility, loyalty, and passion…? hah and applied it to a service project i did. my speech SUCKS. so i did horrible when i was explaining everything. i dont think i’m gonna win…but oh well. i grew up in a home where no one knows how to word things properly…except my brother…so it rubs off on me. whatever…we’re going to berkeley…right?! lol

Did they bring up the essays/ application at all?? I tried looking for the essays I sent in for my app, but I wrote so many for colleges that I can’t remember which ones they were. I don’t know which activities I put either so I hope it doesn’t matter!

The people interviewing you are usually not the same as those who scored your application. While the interviewers have access to your scholarship application, most will only glance at it before the interview; so you should definitely repeat everything that was on your application and elaborate as much as you can. Don’t assume the interviewers have your information committed to memory, because they don’t.

Does anyone know when finalists are notified whether they received a Leadership Scholarship?

it says on the email; i think it’s june 17th.
