I got an email in April saying that my application for the leadership award had advanced to the semi-finals, and that I would find out if I was a finalist in May. Has anybody who applied heard about being a finalist?

Just received an e-mail that said I am a finalist :)

i just got an email too! does anyone know what percentage of finalists end up getting the scholarship and what to expect from the interview?

I have to say, I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but I can’t help but wonder if those applicants who get into UC Berkeley become semi-finalists, and those who SIR to Berkeley become finalists. Thoughts? I’d love to be proven wrong ><

i got that email too, but i’m in china , so i guess i may get a Skype interview…

I got that email too.
There was a page of statistics on how many people go from initial application to semi finalist, then semi finalist to finalist and from finalist to actually getting the award.
I can’t find it anymore though

The year I applied, many of us received finalist status before the SIR deadline.

@kchen: thanks! Good to know.

Any idea what our chances are, anyone?

My D also got notified of the final interview. Very exciting. I found those stats. All who got the interview should be very proud.

One of the alumni interviewers posted last year as follows:

“Last year we had about 5600 applications for incoming freshman. Of these, approx 2600 were excepted to Berkeley and of those, 250 (again, incoming freshman) received the award. It’s about $2000.”

did anyone get the email that told them their interview date?

My D hasn’t yet. I think they have until Monday to call.

i got an email and it says the interview is scheduled on May 31st via phone. has anyone already had the interview ? what kind of questions will they ask ? any experience ?
