Cable TV and Telephone questions

I have a TV; I don't really watch TV(maybe sports), but my parents bought me a cheap one with the intention of making use of the free cable, as stated on the residence hall brochure.

But do they hook-up the TV for you provided with the materials needed? Also, are there any hidden fees I have to worry about?

Also, I am thinking about bringing a phone, since I probably will be making more local calls nearby.

I'm not so sure if it is free, but again, to current students: is it worth it? Should I bring one?

1) no hidden fees. just bring long standard coaxial/RF cable.
2) phone service is not free. i’ve never seen anyone sign up/pay for that service
i would also argue most of your calls would be to friends with areas codes that aren’t 805.
a cell phone is ideal: texting and mobility.

Is there a cable box w/ remote control given?

The reason I am asking is because I am not sure if I should buy a universal remote since my TV doesn’t have a control :(

Thanks for the reply.

no cable box nor remote.
just a wall male or female plug that you connect to your TV and you go to about channel 80
