Caffeine + test day = ???

trust me dude...it works!

Mental Abilities: Caffeine Helps Women, but Not Men, Stay Sharp
Relax: the subjects of this study were only men and women aged 65 and older (average age: 74). :D

On the other hand, in another study of 50-something-old men and women under mental stress men responded to the caffeine pills by showing an increase in blood vessel resistance, with no change in cardiac output. In contrast, women showed no change in vessel resistance, and instead showed an increase in cardiac output... Caffeine may have intensified the anxiety and response of the heart in the women, creating the difference in responses seen.

Why don't they study the SAT'ers?!

Whatever the results could turn out, there must be something in caffeine for everybody: 3,160 caffeine inspired designs were created for a reason url=http://www.cafepress.com/buy/caffeine/-/c667/fptfhbadb____brhpe/go0.
Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with that coffee crazed company.

When I took October SAT I did not get enough sleep the night before.
I drank a cup of VERY strong coffee in the morning and then during a break I downed a can of Double Shot. I could hardly focus my eyes on the next section.
Moderation rulez!:)

"I drank a cup of VERY strong coffee in the morning and then during a break I downed a can of Double Shot."

I would have passed out with such a dose of caffeine.

I'm literally fueled by caffeine every day. I started drinking coffee when I was 12. It's a dreadful habit. Don't go for it if you're not familiar with it. Surely caffeine gives you alertness, yet it also makes you feel more anxious. I wouldn't recommend it if you have any cardiac problems. Try it several days before the SAT to see how it suits you. Yet you're gonna be addicted to it by then. It's not worth it. Conventional wisdom: get a good night's sleep and stay away from any addictives!

I drank diet coke the first time and sugar-free Red Bull the second time. I really need it to wake up that early on the weekends.

leetx - Yeah, I only brew my own tea. I drank it on the way to the test center in my car in an insulating cup.

"How do the caffeine sources compare: diet coke, coffee, monster, gatorade, tea?"

From least caffeine to greatest: gatorade, diet coke, coffee, monster. Tea is a weird one because it depends on what kind you drink and how long you brew it for. Black tea>green tea>white tea. But for comparison, diet coke: 45mg, coffee: 80mg, green tea: 30mg. If you aren't a big tea drinker, I would have tea every day before the test so your body can get used to it.

Best bet is this:
Breakfast - 3 eggs, whole weat toast, yogurt, fruit, no more than 200 mL juice, 100mg caffeine pill

In the car - Short espresso (if necessary)
Just before SAT - Red bull
During Break - Red bull #2

Thats what I do, but I drinks tons of coffee. The key is to limit your fluid intake so you dont always have to P. The first red bull hits me just before the 1st break, and the second redbull gets me to the final break

caffeine+test day=DISASTER
lol

regular gatorade has no caffeine (caffeine actually dehydrates you, but gives you energy).

I always recommend arizona green tea (or any ginseng tea).

I've found that while caffeine energizes me, green tea actually helps you concentrate as well.

I actually wouldnt drink anything before the test....if anything, wait until you think you are losing concentration, and then drink the stuff.

Ive found that i get a pretty decent adrenaline rush when i know im taking the most important test of my life, so until that wears off, i dont need any extra energy.

Drink Red Bull =)

I ended up using a combo of green tea and this "mad-croc" caffeinated energy gum and I felt pretty alert throughout the process today. Hopefully my scores will reflect this. If the scores are bad, I might just have to sue the tea and gum company :).

20 drops of ginseng extract; egg'n'steak'n'cheese wrap; double espresso + soy milk 50:50 in the morning.
16 oz can of Rockstar Juiced and Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Granola Bar split between the two breaks.
It's 6:30 pm and I am ready for a nap now. :D

By the way, did you know that Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch has more caffeine in it than a can of Red Bull?
See Caffeine Content of Food & Drugs.
I strongly discourage consuming Spike Shooter and No Name (former Cocaine) drinks. There were people who ended up in the hospital after having just one can.

I drank around 500 ml total of iced canned coffee throughout the breaks in the test. Stayed alert and got 2330. I ain't complaining =P

okay listen
i actually drank starbucks vanilla latte venti for the november 3 SAT I.

as far as i can tell you, i didnt crash.

but i also had one granola bar before taking the test and one granola bar halfway through taking the test.

i think i did a lot better in concentrating than last time

FYI i drank evian water for the test before nov.

that help?

All I drank was tea about an hour before the test, and then I didn't drink or eat anything at all until about an hour after the test. I think if you are well-disciplined, you should not have to consume too much caffeine nor drink or eat during the test at all. I mean I did bring a water bottle, but for some reason I never drank a sip during the test because I was so focused and stuff.

gametheory, ^that is the exact same thing that I do as well. lol.

PS - Nice name by the way.

My friends and I went to IHOP before the test. Dayum that shizz nits was good...we think we did well...lol
