hw, where did you get that info? was that from an email?

Passionate, supposedly we get a chance to change our finaid stuff, but the thing that i am very unsure about is whether or not we will receive more grants or loans.

lilsunflower, it seems that you are also off-campus :( did u mention off or on-campus in the fafsa?

I put "on-camput" in the first place. But I changed it to "off-campus" since a person from our school financial aid office told me that I could get more money if I chose "off-campus". He was from Federal Stafford Loan actually. My school just invited him to help us on FAFSA day. Why did I trust him????Arhhhhh~~~ I must have been stupid at that moment.
I just corrected it yesterday. Hopefully I can get something more. btw: do you think the difference comes from loan or I will get more scholarship? cuz I don't plan to take the loan.

Ah, yes, always double check the definition of the term "more money." Especially if that person's wearing a tie. Prolly was a Haas graduate. :P

mojo, my Cal financial aid also says that I'm off campus when I am planning on living in University Apartments next year. However, I was looking at some Cal housing info, and apparently the only residences which are considered "on campus" are the actual residence halls (eg. Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Bowles etc.) while the transfer/upper division apartments (Channing Bowditch etc) are considered "off campus" for purposes of financial aid.

Just to be safe, when I go up there next weekend I will inquire at the financial aid/housing offices to make sure this is correct

m_lp...
sorry I didn't get back to you....I actually studied 6 hrs today for a stats exam...that damn class has me so worried about transfer. Anyway, yes University Village is considered "off campus" even though it is owned by Cal...since it's located in Albany. All family student housing is located off campus w/ the exception to the continuing students there is one building but it's always full. I still have not decided if I will be moving into family student housing or just commuting...it's approx 1400-1700 month for the size I need and from what I can tell there is no D/W or in house laundry...you have to use the community laundry. I'll be making my final decision when I check it out this Saturday after the reception.

luvtoolearn: Which stats are you taking? Introduction to stats or a higher stats like: Applied Calculus in Stats. You could always get a tutor right. My stats class is so easy that honestly I don't really need to study a lot to get an A. However, physical anthropology is killing me. Darn I have a 89% right now, I just don't think I can boost it up to 90% after final. I suck at anthro.

it's only intro to stats but I have by far the worst professor you could possibly immagine... there is only 6 students left out of 52... whenever a student asks him to give an example, he always replies that he does not feel like it and to just read the book. He has come to class slurring his speech and we suspect that he might be drinking beforehand. He's all over the place jumping back and fourth btwn chapters. This is the only class I have ever not understood a word a professor is saying and I did well in calc...I don't know what I'm going to do but have ulsers and maybe a few nose bleeds before finals.

Thanks luvtoolearn.
I have a transfer reception this coming Wednesday, too, where there's supposed to be a student parent rep. I'm going with lots of questions.

The rent in Albany is ~$500 more than I'm paying now. I'm hoping at least that $6K grant will help offset that.

I have no D/W now, but I will sure miss my stacked front-loading washer/dryer!

lol...I hear ya...call me spoiled...but I can't imagine not having a D/W ...especially w/ kids...=P and carrying laundry to a laundry room only to find that they are all being used is really irritating...but at least all the untilities are paid for...I'm sure the extra $ will cover the difference and from what I can tell on the agreement the deposit is only $250 so that makes it easier to move

I have no idea about university housing mojo. Which one is the better environment for study? I don't really care if it's cool or not 'cause I might end up work my butt up to keep up with the class if I decided to go to Cal.

my fafsa was set to On- Campus and I got my award letter for Off- Campus as well. And my package looks somewhat identical to yours as well. But I would like to know that when the package is changed to On- Campus housing... they help out in grants only by aout 5k? Or the entire 13k in grants. I was on the phone with them and forgot to ask them that. Housing average at Cal is about 13k. The budgets that we were awarded for were about 20-21k for off campus and it is 25-26k for on-campus. So you guys think they are only paying in grants the difference in the budget or the whole cost of living on-campus?
