My friend told me cal grant wasn’t due until april but i checked today and saw it due march 2nd. So I quickly filled out my FAFSA today as of 3/1 and since my parents didn’t file their 2015 taxes yet I put the tax information from 2014. Two questions, can i go back and update tax information to 2015 later? and If i submit fafsa, cal grant csac automatically receives it right? also it says it takes 3 days to process the fafsa but cal grant needs it submitted by tomorrow. Am I okay? Im kind of freaking out because I did this last minute and its been a year since I did it. This is going to be my second time for cal grant which means i dont need to submit my gpa right?
You weren’t supposed to put in your parents 2014 tax information on the FAFSA.
There are several questions that ask about your parents filing status. Did you miss that part and the explanation on the FAFSA??? One main question asks: Parents “will file”, “have filed” or “will not file” a US tax return for 2015. You check that box and then later, after your parents have filed their taxes, then you return later to the FFSA page to edit the box and state that parents “have filed”. The instructions were very clear on that.
You have to follow the instructions listed on the CalGrant form. It is ALWAYS due March 2nd. Always.
And you have to submit your GPA form. Some CC’s and high schools do this, automatically, for their students, but you can’t rely on that. You need to double-check your GPA verification form and you might as well swing by the registrar’s office and get that filled in.
If you only had the 2014 tax information for now, while not ideal, you were supposed to try and estimate 2015 tax information from W2 or last pay stub. But you have to make sure to update with actual tax return as soon as possible.
Yes, check if all requirements are met for Calgrant.
Your original submission date for the FAFSA is the one that counts, regardless of when (or how often) it later gets updated. Since you submitted on March 1, you were on time. As for any other requirements, check with your school’s FA office to make sure nothing else is required. You’ve still got all the rest of the day today, in case anything else is needed, so you should be fine.
