Cal Grant Recinded?

I'm a returning student and it's my first time really in financial need with school.

I was awarded Cal Grant A, the 10,302 one a few weeks back. I accepted the efan but then today, I received an email saying my efan had been updated, and when I looked, my Cal Grant was gone and it was replaced with an 8500 university grant and 2000 work study (I know it technically equates to more, but I can't work at school since I'm taking 20 units and have to come home every weekend).

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is this just "temporary" until CA passes the state budget?

Since I already accepted my other efan, can I just not accept this one and then basically demand that I get the other one with the Cal Grant?

that happened to me too! & i’m not sure why. but i just accepted the new offer which replaced the CA grant amount with the “scholarship recognition award” . i figured they were both free money so it shouldn’t matter

the governator is terminating the cal grant.

was that an intentional pun? lol

EDIT: oops, i thought the year was 2010. This one is more recent, and while the calgrant isn’t being cut, it is being hurt:

@qweasd135: Where did you head that!!! If Cal Grants are over… so am I :/

Cal grants are typically 6-8 grand, it’s kinda weird that it would be as high as 10 pure grant.

@sid3000 “Cal Grant A Entitlement awards can be used for tuition and fees at public and private colleges as well as some private career colleges. At CSU and UC schools, this Cal Grant covers systemwide fees up to $4,429 and $10,302 respectively.” -taken from the Cal Grants website.

i have a same problem… should i just accept it ?
