I am currently a freshman at UCB. I was offered/accepted a Cal Grant for the 2007 - 2008 school year. I was told by the Cal Grant people that I would not have to submit a GPA verification form to have it be renewed. I know it's after the deadline but for my own peace of mind I want to know if that's true. To renew a Cal Grant, do you just have to submit a Fafsa? I checked my Cal Grant New Recipient Manual and that is what it said but I just want to make sure as I have read some conflicting things online.

Correct.

My son is a sophomore at UCB and the financial aid office said that all he had to do was submit the FAFSA (no GPA verification form was needed).

Yes. UCLA has automatically submitted the GPA verification for us the last couple years, and the FAFSA alone was sufficient to reapply for CalGrant.
