Cal Grant Status

So I've been trying to keep up with the Cal Grant news, but one source is telling me one thing and another a different thing.

Does anyone know for sure if the amount listed in my awards summary for Cal Grant will actually be awarded to me? (Applying for loans right now.)

Thanks.

From what I’ve hear on the news, the legislature voted on the budget and passed everything except for $1 billion in gas tax borrowing from cities and a $100 million oil drilling provision. The budget is still balanced even without that money but the governor wants an additional $2 billion in reserves so he is planning to use his line item veto power to cut even more so the Cal Grant program is still in danger. I really hope that the money doesn’t get cut though because going to college would become very difficult.

Also, I completed my direct loan entrance exam a week ago but on bear facts it still says that I am missing proof for it. Is anyone experiencing the same problem? I have also completed my promisory note.

According to the UC President, all students who were awarded Cal Grants will receive their awards from a University of California short-term account and they (UCOP) will be reimbused once the State passes the budget and begins to send out late checks. This might not be necessary since the governor intends to sign the budget later on today. Also, as a part of the budget negotiation, the Democrats agreed that they would back the deal only if Cal Grants and a host of other services were funded for the upcoming fiscal year so there’s no need to worry about the governor possibly line-item vetoing Cal Grants. So, Cal Grants are safe for this year. And next year the TERMINATOR will be out of the governor’s office!
