Cal Grants NOT CUT

Here is the article about the budget, the beginning of the third paragraph is what really concerns us...

"Cal Grants would be spared - which means college students who have been promised the awards this year would receive them...'

State's top leaders reach budget compromise

my cal grant totally disappeared on me.

how about next year?

We don’t know about next year, because there’s no budget for next year yet, only this year. If they didn’t cut the program this year (during the worst fiscal crisis in CA in at least two decades), I personally (as a politics major) find no reason they would throw out the program next year. However, if you want to be CERTAIN you’ll keep getting your CalGrants, I’d vote for Gavin Newsom in next year’s gubernatorial election. That’s the only way you can really be sure, if you ask me.

A. Gavin Newsom is a piece of *****.

B. You are a political science major, not an econ major.

Do you understand the concept of lagging indicators?

are you serious?

hahaha, looks like Hijynx has taken my spot as the resident ‘Anxious Applicant/A-Hole’

Yes, a politics major. It’s a special discipline under political science. It also means he took like 3 political science pre reqs at his CCC.

These classes probably consist of:
International Government
US Government
Foreign Policy

@grey: Not sure if I fall into “anxious applicant” since I have already been admitted. Nor am I anxious. This board does give a great way to pass time at work though  It’s one of 3 I visit.

oh… i was just wondering if he was serious about name dropping his major like it made him an authority on, well, anything…

Lol i feel you on that pinker, personally (as someone who voted in the 2008 election) they should give money to students lol

^^^Dumb^^^

^^^Dumb^^^

So I was checking my efan status and it seems that my cal grant was taken away. However, my scholarship award rose significantly and is now (I guess) replacing my cal grant award. According to my provisional award letter, I was supposed to receive a cal grant, so now I’m curious to see how many other peers here had the same thing happen to them. Anyone? Reasons, maybe? I’ll be calling later next week, but hoping I can save myself a phone call.

Thanks.

At first I thought my cal grant was cut too. So I went to the cal grant website and changed my school to UCLA and in about 4 days I was sent another eFAN with cal grant awarded to me (they lowered my scholarship amount). Cal grant didn’t make a difference in the total amount of aid I’ll receive.
so If you were not awarded cal grant, the ucla scholarship should compensate. If you were awarded cal grant they’d lowered your scholarship. so I don’t think you should worry about your cal grant not showing up.

hope this helps.

Thank you.

I’m unable to check the website at this moment as the database is down for maintenance, but I’m assuming the same thing happened to me. Though I’m not complaining, I would still like to know why I didn’t receive a cal grant award as I qualify for it. I was just wondering whether it had something to do with the budget, but I’ll see what I can dig up tomorrow.

Thanks again.
