Cal Housing - "Can you see the Application" list

Startraksfinest:

First, I am not coming from a UC or a CCC, and I can see the app.

Second, since there are people who did apply out of HS and cannot see the app, either it's completely random who sees it (which seems unlikely) or it's based on something else, like admission.

My theory is that if you can see it, you were indeed admitted. If you can't either you haven't been reviewed yet, or you were rejected. The reason it has old high school information is because the system saves information to SS#. It probably has two addresses and emails listed for those who applied twice, and it simply uses the first one on the list: your HS one.

"First, I am not coming from a UC or a CCC, and I can see the app."

I think its more to the fact that every single intercampus transfer has been able to see it, when we were told transferring was near impossible and given lowest priority.

^^^ Good logic. The correlation is therefore highly unlikely. I remind you all to consider what happened with NYU last year when people said that you were admitted if you had a student ID. Still, some that had the ID were rejected and some that could not access the ID page ended up being accepted. If it helps you sleep at night to think you've got proof that you're in at Cal, great, just don't take it too seriously until you get the big package.

And as for the waiting period, I found it works best to convince yourself that you probably won't get in: then, when the time comes, if you do get in, the excitement is 10X as much; if you are rejected, you aren't so surprised.

Actually, after CCC students, intercampus transfers have the 2nd highest priority.... :p

in order of preference: CCC, intercampus, other california colleges (csus), and last, but not least, OOS applicants.

I think its * obvious * that if you get an ID, you are not accepted. I mean, every campus gives an applicant an ID number before decisions are out....so i dont think this relates at all to what we are going through.

If you check berkeley's housing website, it says, "newly admitted students" can see their application.

If you look back at that thread, I'm pretty sure people were using similar evidence as you guys are now: only recently admitted applicants would have received the ID that allows you to check your FA status, select classes, etc. This is not the same as the typical # ID that all colleges with online checking systems give you. It was supposed to be the official NYU student ID that you'd keep for your next two or three years.

the only difference between berk and nyu is the following:

i think its very clear.

yeah i agree. i think it's clear. as far as it being "unlikely" that so many inter-UC transfers would get in, keep in mind that kids who post on CC are not indicative of a general trend. if you're gonna spend hours scouring message boards, systematically dissecting every bit of information that comes out, it might be the case that you are a better student than someone who doesn't care as much. just a thought.

anddd if you can't see the app you get:

This application is available to admitted or registered undergraduate students only. Your login (CalNet ID: XXXXXX) is valid, but we cannot currently confirm your status as admitted or registered. If you have just been admitted, there may be a delay of a day or so before the Housing database receives your updated status; but if you are an admitted (or currently registered) student and you continue to receive this message, please contact the Housing Office or Tech Support for assistance.

yes that is compelling evidence. :D

However, I'd be careful. It could be the real deal, but then again this thread is two pages long (on my computer at least) because people are raising many "ifs" to the scenario. The fact of the matter is, you don't know you're in for sure until you get the decision, so don't set yourself up for the 1% chance of extreme disappointment.

lol, yay, we won :)!!!

anyways, yeah, its not 100% sure, but i would say around 60-80%. Dont quote me on that!

OH I WILL SO QUOTE YOU!

Lol, I wasn't aware we were dueling, but if so this isn't fair cuz you have the homefield advantage. ;)

Anyways, when I first got accepted to a college (WashU) I had to keep checking the status page online to make sure they hadn't changed it to rejected. Swear to God I reopened that status page 20 times that day and then when I finally had a letter, I felt safe. So the whole idea of assuming an acceptance based on something like this just seems crazy to me!

a lot of us CCCers are expecting to get accepted

Emory also has this pre-admissions thing on their website Opus.

When i applied last year, i searched through the forums and saw that people were saying that if you see a deposit link, that means you are in, without getting your official decision. This is kinda reminiscent of what is going on right now. With that in mind, after i submitted my final transcript, 3 days later, i saw a deposit link. 2 days after, i saw a congrats message lol.. So im a total believer in pre-admissions sign.

Anyone else seen this:

"You have authenticated successfully with your current CalNet passphrase.

However, an upcoming move of the CalNet authentication service requires that your CalNet passphrase be synchronized with Active Directory (AD) and this cannot be done yet because your CalNet ID 18###### is not present in AD.

If you have two or three CalNet IDs ...
If you are a student, you may ignore this message. We are still working on allowing students to consolidate their CalNet IDs.
If you currently have only one ID, then please contact the CalNet Team at calnet-admin@lists.berkeley.edu for further information on resolving this issue."

Specifically on the subject of them reusing IDs: "We are still working on allowing students to consolidate their CalNet IDs." People obviously can have multiple IDs, IMO this housing app is showing everyone who applied in high school, is meaningless, etc.

Wilder, where is that from? The housing website?

I didn't attend summer session so I don't have passphrase..

And you can't create a passphrase??

So that isn't from housing then?

no wilderr only you have the passphrase
