I want to transfer to Cal to double major in Media Studies and Political Science, both of which are in Letters & Science. Here is what assis.org said:

By the end of the spring term preceding fall enrollment at Berkeley,
you must complete either:

1) The L&S Requirements in Reading & Composition, Quantitative Reasoning, and
Foreign Language; OR
2) IGETC

In addition:
- Complete as many lower division major requirements (see below) as possible
before transfer.
- This major may require specific coursework be completed prior to transfer.

In general:
- completion of L&S Requirements (or IGETC), plus
- strength of academic preparation, and
- grade point average
are the primary selection criteria for admission.

So after reading this I got to wondering... for the IGETC I only need 1 foreign language course. A single 4 semester unit elementary language class. While for the L&S it says the requirement is requires the single 4 semester unit elementary language class as well as the proceeding 4 semester unit intermediate level language course.

Would taking both classes required, or at least "required" to be considered a serious candidate? Would taking both have some sort of greater benefit for me come admission time? If I do take the intermediate class would it be possible to take that P/NP?
