<p>So I have been waiting all day and have been checking my email 24/7 because today Berkeley was suppose to inform the finalists of the Leadership Award Alumni Scholarship. My friend and I have been waiting and are wondering if anyone has heard anything about their status; if they are a finalist or were rejected? Thanks!</p>
<p>I thought that they would inform us after May 4th?</p>

<p>i only got an email saying that we would be informed of our status after may 4th. do they only send out that email to prospective finalists?</p>
<p>but if they did notify finalistis on the 2nd, wouldn’t there be many people posting? (especially as this is CC)</p>

<p>I was reading something online about this and it says: The Alumni Scholarship Program awards more than $1 million to some 1000 undergraduates (only citizens or residents) who demonstrate strong leadership skills in campus, community, or job activities. Scholarships given range from $1,500 to 2,500 per year. The Alumni Scholarship Leadership Award is one of the most prestigious awards on the Berkeley campus. Awarded based on student leadership, Alumni Leadership Scholars represent the excellence of Cal students when they step outside the classroom–either on campus or in the community. From more than ten thousand initial applicants, only a few hundred Alumni Scholarship Leadership Finalists will be invited to interview with an alumni representative. Each of those Finalists will compete to earn a share of the more than $1.3 million in renewable scholarships handed out by Berkeley alumni each year.</p>
<p>So I’m guessing about 200 a year? About 1000 recipients, divided by 5 years of scholarships…right?</p>

<p>those of you who got the finalist email what kind of leadership activities are you involved in?</p>
<p>I play alot of music, mostly jazz and worship. So I talked about my most recent band I started and how we’re gigging now and we’ve already played our first wedding.</p>
<p>Also it asks how you made a difference, I said that I created a means for the other members of my band (all of them younger than me) to get up to 4 years of gigging experience before they go to college or conservatory.</p>
<p>My DD has received this award and worked in the office there, they are looking for people who are likely to be interested in and active on campus. It doesn’t really matter what you do, it matters that you have some passion about it and plan to be involved on campus</p>

<p>I wanted to make some greener changes at Berkeley and possibly start a student-based program. The bulk of my extracirriculars were related to the environment…so I guess it made sense :)</p>
