My daughter’s CSU eligibility index score is 4,430. Is this high enough for her to get into Cal Poly Pomona in Fall 2018 as a biology major? If not, should she list another major that’s not as impacted? What about biochemistry? She’s a CA resident, not local area.
She has a competitive EI but it cannot hurt to also select an alternate major especially a non-impacted major.
I know this is off-topic, but do you know if this EI is competitive for SDSU? Again, she would list Biology but we know its very impacted there. Maybe biochem or enviro science? SDSU doesn’t consider alternative majors, do they? We’re not up to speed yet on the CSUs but trying to find a way into a good one. She was admitted to 2 colleges in Oregon via early notification but didn’t like the area, so we’re back to CA. colleges now.
with a 4430 she should be fine for both schools. I agree with @gumbymom above, she should definitely list a less competitive alternate major for CPP. There’s only upside in that move.
good luck.
@pekkla: Your daughters EI is competitive for SDSU and you are correct they do not consider alternate majors. Biology is one of the most popular majors at all the CSU’s but she has a very good chance. Some high stat applicants (Honors college invitees) can hear as early as December/January on their decisions from both CPP and SDSU.
I would look at UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, Cal States Long Beach and Fullerton for other CA schools.
I know you posted on the UC Davis website and it is worth an application to some of the UC’s but her SAT score is on the low side for the Mid-tier UC’s. It doesn’t hurt to have a few Reach schools on the list.
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCB: 1280-1490
UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1290-1450
UCD: 1190-1430
UCI: 1190-1420
UCSC: 1170-1380
UCR: 1090-1310
UCM: 1020-1230
She will get an excellent education at these Cal states and the lower tier UC’s.
