Previous threads about what the campus life is like (commuter school, scarcity of dorms, etc) are old so I was hoping someone could help provide some updated information about what campus life might be like for an out of state student. Does the campus empty out on weekends? Is it hard to get space in one of the nicer dorms after your freshman year? I know the freshman dorms aren’t that great and new ones are under construction but wouldn’t be in time for her next year. Any feedback would be very appreciated!
My son is currently a freshman there and he says it is pretty empty there on the weekends. A lot of the kids in the dorms also go home as many are from within 40 min of there. He likes it as he ends up getting his room to himself on the weekends as his roommate goes home each and every weekend. He is currently trying to get housing for the second year in the suites so we shall see in a few weeks when his appt is for picking if there is space. They are building new dorms but from what I have heard they may not be ready in time for fall. As long as you are over so many miles from campus you will be higher up on the priority list. He got his housing choice and was late in applying since he came in off of the waitlist for admissions to begin with. Since you are out of state I think you will most likely rate much higher on the list for housing. There is also a place called University Village which is on the edge of campus run by the foundation that you can get in your 2-4th years most likely. It is right by the farm store. The current freshmen dorms are not horrible. They have a ton of storage which is nice even though they are older.
I have the same question. We are in state (35 min away) but my daughter doesn’t want to come home and hang out with us every weekend.
My son was accepted at CPP, and will likely attend starting Fall 2019. We were poking around online and found that they are currently constructing new freshman dorms which will be open for students in Fall 2019. We couldn’t find any additional info and don’t know if the construction timeline is on time.
My hope is that the shiny new dorms, and the amenities that come with them will improve “student life” for Freshman at CPP.
@mkay72 I just spoke to the Housing Office and the told me that incoming 2019 Freshman will move into the old dorms for Fall 2019 and then they will all be moved to the new Freshman dorms for the Spring 2020 semester.
