I was denied for cal poly early decision, and now it seems unlikely that I’ll be accepted for regular decision in the spring. I really really want to go to cal poly so I’ve been researching Cuesta. Has anyone transferred from Cuesta to Cal Poly? Also, I would have to move down there, and I heard that some Cuesta students live in the dorms. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. I’d be transferring into Cal Poly for architecture. Is there anyone who has moved to SLO, lived on Cal Poly’s campus, and went to Cuesta? I’d love to talk to you.

You have to be a Cal Poly student to live in the dorms. I think the rumors you heard may have been referring to one of the off-campus dorms / apartments (e.g. Stenner Glen), which are operated by private entities independent of the university.

Also, going to Cuesta doesn’t make you more or less competitive in getting accepted to Poly against JC transfers from other parts of the state, so make sure you have a backup plan in-case things don’t work out. Good luck.

I’ve looked into this option as a potential back up plan for a major in civil engineering, my son has applied there. According to assist.org, Cuesta does have the largest number of transferable courses for that major and probably does for arch as well, but you should verify that.

I would strongly advise your talking to Cal Poly admissions about this option before starting your plan. I gave up on this as an option, though it is still a strong option to transferring to UCD, after reading the following, listed in the Mustang Daily for Oct 7, 2009.

[Q&A with provost Koob | Mustang Daily - News for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo](http://mustangdaily.net/qa-with-provost-koob/)
Q. Is Cal Poly still accepting transfer students?
A. Yes, but only those students that will be ready to be juniors and can graduate in two years. The hope is also to make the process much easier.
What this means: There will be no underclassmen transfers and it will much harder to transfer in to programs that require an elaborate sequence like engineering and architecture.

Cal Poly wouldn’t be the only school I apply to as a transfer, I’ll keep other options for sure. Who lives in Stenner Glen or the other off campus housing options? Any freshman? Are they mostly Cal Poly students? That is my main question. Also, is it suite style? I’d rather live in a dorm.

Thank you otc2010! I will definitely give both Cal Poly and Cuesta a call.

Is anyone else thinking of doing the same thing?

cuesta is an actual apartment complex, anyone can live there but you can bet your ass that plenty of cal poly students there. mostly juniors and seniors though

There are 13 buildings with a mix of Cuesta and Cal poly Students. The housing is for students only and does offer meal plans with a very nice dining hall. They are set up with multiple rooms for singles or doubles, I think six rooms, with a common living room and bathroom. It is immediately adjacent to Cal Poly on the side of campus closer to town. They have a website, just google Stenner Glen San Luis Obispo. The pictures are realistic, we have visited 3 or 4 times. I have two daughters who are considering the same plan for the fall if not accepted regular decision.

does any one have any information on seniors transferring to cal poly? i am trying to transfer from san diego state. my major is psychology and my alternate major is chemistry. i transfered to sdsu with a 3.3 gpa and i have a 3.77 at sdsu. my overall is 3.52.
