I got my email from the wait list today as well. I really hope I get in. I am transferring from SFSU and this is the only school I’m considering. Goodluck to all as well though. :)

@gogogadget why are you transferring out of SFSU if you don’t mind me asking… If I don’t get into Cal Poly I’m probably going there and was just curious if ur having trouble getting classes or something

@Coffeelover9: I wonder if it’s just incoming freshmen that are expected to hear no later than May 15th, because I’m a transfer student and my e-mail said that my status would be updated no later then July 15th. This is the date that the admissions told me as well. I’m not too happy about that, such a long time to wait, but what can you do? Thank you for sharing that information about your friends though, that makes me feel a little better and restores some hope lol. Was it this year that your friends got in off the wait list, or was this in the past?

@Cheloveu02 - My friend’s daughter got in off the wait list 2 years ago (1 week after she filled out the survey) Last year another friend’s daughter was admitted on March 31st! I hate to think how many times she checked her portal Sounds like July 15 is for transfer students. My son is an incoming freshman.

I just checked my son’s UC Irvine portal this morning. They have clearly stated that ‘during the month of March admission decisions will be posted by 9.00 am. No updates will happen through out the day after 9 am.’
I wish CP had a set time like that rather than making everyone keep checking the portal throughout the day, which is totally inefficient use of people’s time.

Has anyone been “rejected” yet? What a cruel trick…make the rejections wait until last…keeping their hopes up until the very last minute. If I were “king of cal poly” rejections would go out first. I have a thearoy about why the more competitive schools wait so long to send results. (building emotional demand, increasing yield, boosting prestige)

It’s not a “trick”, Cal Poly needs to see the entire pool before they can make a decision on those who are on the bubble.

I imagine those who are severely underqualified have been rejected already, those types tend to not post on CC.

rejections: I don’t think they save the rejections for last. I have read numerous posts on this thread from people who have been rejected. Sometimes it might take longer because after being rejected from your first choice major they might hand it on to the second choice major?

Portal: Portal completely changed with DS’s acceptance. You log in and see a completely different menu with lots of options and a video welcoming you to Cal Poly.

I think it would be AWESOME if they would set a specific time each day - whether it be 9am or noon etc for updates to portals be posted. Telling applicants to just keep checking their portals is crazy-making. I am thankful I will be flying today and unable to check the portal as often. I understand the enormous task at hand in going through the applications but csulb had the most and they managed to notify people without this insanity…

Well, another day, another ‘no determination made’. Harumpf. I did speak with someone today who’s D was waitlisted for Psych last week. So, this puts a data point into the ‘not saving all rejected/waitlisted’ for last. Also as per the admin I spoke to yesterday - she suggested checking the portal once a day. Yeah, from her mouth to my brain.

Another thread says accepted students are getting congratulatory emails from the CP President. :(

To all of you still awaiting your fate, I feel your pain, I really do. I was there myself two years ago. Checking my portal every day as those around me had been getting acceptances throughout Feb. Pure torture.

Then a funny thing happened. Around mid-March, I started getting accepted to a my top UC’s, all within a matter of days. Then boom, a day after receiving the last UC acceptance, I checked my portal and guess what, I was in at Cal Poly! I have a theory about this. Cal Poly is well aware of when UC’s admit and know you have other options now, so they get it into gear and get that portal lit up. Just a theory. Like all the theories I have read about on this thread (See truth below) And yes- I did choose Cal Poly and am very happy about my choice, in case you are wondering.

Here’s what I have learned about this admissions process. NOBODY KNOWS NUTHIN’.
There is literally no rhyme or reason with who gets in, who doesn’t…I’m sure you all know people who have gotten in on relatively weak GPA’s/test scores and others whose stats. are in the stratosphere who are rejected…no, there is no “fairness” involved. It is what it is…some mystical algorithum. And as for trying to figure out the order of when you hear (by dept. for example)-- FORGETABOUTIT. There ain’t none.

So, my advice to you is: hang in there, good news may be on the way much sooner than those “deadlines” would suggest. And if the news is not what you had hoped for…look for your happiness at one of the other schools who accepted you. I had a long conversation with many of my old high school buddies (we all spread ourselves across the state and country to attend college) at a reunion recently. Initial broken hearts over rejections to the school they had a crush on, went on to LOVE the school they ended up enrolling in. So keep an open mind. You’ll end up where you should be. Really.

Best of luck to all of you. You will be successful wherever you go. I can tell.
Yeah, I’m a psychic, too. Well- guess I should get to my Bio. homework…

Dietz-my son did get an email today congratulating him and thanking him for indicating his decision to attend Cal Poly. Only trouble is that he has not decided yet! He got another e-mail an hour later clarifying that he may not have accepted his invitation yet. It also included info about housing apps.

@artysmom - Hmm can’t help but point out that you’re being highly hypocritical by saying nobody knows anything about the admissions process, when you seem so confident that there is “no rhyme or reason” to it yourself.

I highly doubt schools make all their decisions, then shuffle them up just to randomly release the results. People need to take a more calmed and rational approach to the process. There are superior applicants and there are inferior applicants, it’s not a complete crapshoot. Assuming there is no correlation is naive.

I am a prospective student transferring in Fall 2013. The colleges I applied to are these:

Cal Poly SLO
Humboldt
CSU Monterey Bay
CSU Chico
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UC Santa Cruz

I will be majoring in Math. Has anyone heard when the transfer students should be getting acceptance/denials yet? How do they decide who gets in? I am teetering to go to Cal Poly SLO since that is my top choice of school.

I am a transfer student with a 3.27 GPA. What are my chances of getting into Cal Poly SLO with that GPA for that major?

SoDoMojo will you just shut up. artysmom posted a very reassuring message for everyone on here freaking out about Cal Poly’s decisions. To be honest all of you just need to take a chill pill, and all you parents need to let the kids do the worrying.

Oh, but if only it were as easily done as it is said. Sorry, we will worry about you for the rest of our lives. I’m…well let’s just say I haven’t gotten carded for a very long time…and my dad still worries about me. It’s called being a parent. :)

Lol avatar, if you want to continue to live in a dreamworld where you theorize about college admissions so you can feel good about yourself and your chances, feel free.

If you’re not being realistic, you will only be setting yourself up for disappointment. I like his ending message, but saying there is no fairness or order to the admissions process is giving false hope to others.

@artysmom
Thanks for your message. I especially liked ‘You’ll end up where you should be’. That is true not just with colleges but throughout the life! Goodluck with your remaining two years at CP!

@SoDoMojo- point taken. My words were poorly chosen…when I said “there is no rhyme or reason with who gets in”, I certainly didn’t mean to imply that it’s entirely a crapshoot. Of course it’s not… stronger candidates generally have a much better chance than weaker ones for acceptance. It is my belief, based on the varied admission stats of many students I know, that Cal Poly really does their best to “balance” their depts. and university. HOW they go about reaching that “balance”, I know not, which was my referral to some “mystical algorithim”. And I agree with you. It is best to take a calm and rational approach…and I DO believe that is what CP does.

So, sincere apologies if my post was misunderstood and upset anyone. That was certainly not my intent. Quite the opposite. Please focus on my last paragraphs which were intended to support you and your dreams. I’m rooting for you. Best of luck!
