To all waitlisted, if SLO is your number one school of choice, I would advice that you follow up with the program. I have heard that most waitlisted who do eventually get enrolled.
Waitlist stats vary from year to year depending upon how many accepted applicants enroll by May 1.
2015 Waitlist stats:
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list:1888
Number of wait-listed students admitted:134
2016: Waitlist stats:
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 1011
Number of wait-listed students admitted:675
@OrangeMom28 last year there was a low percentage of accepted students who enrolled which meant about 2/3 of waitlisted students were offered spots. However, since first doing a waitlist in 2008, only 2012 and 2016 had a substantial number of students admitted from the waitlist. Most years it is 15-115, avg maybe 40.
I heard that most who reapply do get in. Those numbers depend on how many reapply. I have heard that most waitlisted do not reapply.
@OrangeMom28 How is it possible to reapply?
@wa1138: I would assume either reapply as a Transfer? which again gives no guarantees or reapply after taking a Gap year which unless the applicant does something significant in that GAP year would also give no guarantees. I agree that I do not understand the statement made by @OrangeMom28.

Is there anything I can do in order to improve my chances of being admitted from the wait list?
@colyfI I wrote them a letter. Sent it to the administration office and explain why it is important for you get admitted.
@Rachel17 @colyfl There’s very little reason to send an appeal for a waitlist decision, as Cal Poly does not set aside extra seats for waitlisted students. Cal Poly uses a ranked waitlist, and those who are more qualified will be admitted before other less-qualified students if a space happens to open up.
