Cal Poly Pomona or CC?

I got into cal poly pomona for computer engineering, and I am deciding between CPP and CC. I do like CPP, but they don’t offer the biomedical engineering major… I was recommended to get a bachelor’s in Comp Eng, and get a graduate degree in biomedical engineering. I have also heard that a bachelor’s in computer engineering is more useful than one in biomedical engineering, so I’m not too averse to attending CPP. I could instead attend CC and transfer to a UC for biomedical engineering, but I’m not too sure which the better choice is. Fortunately, CPP is affordable for me, but CC is still an option since transferring to a UC would be easier. I honestly don’t know which the better choice is… I feel like I can achieve with both choices, but I’m not too sure. Unfortunately, didn’t get into any UC for engineering, only got wait listed at UCI for biomedical engineering. I sent in my appeal letter for UCI just recently as well. I’d appreciate any insight! Thanks!

i’d head to CPP, it is the bird in the hand - and is an outstanding Engineering school. I agree with those counseling you to begin with a BS in a fairly broad field, then specialize into BioMed for your advanced degree.

One thing you may wanna verify is if a community college around you even offers the prereq courses to transfer into BioMed. Sure you get get igetc cert done for really cheap but what good is it to try to transfer out from a school if you cant finish enough prereqs to be competitive. CPP is a pretty dang good school for engineering so thats what I’d do, but definately see if you get off the waitlist or appeal for UCI. I say submit your SIR to pomona and if you get accepted from the waitlist at UCI, go there if. Sure you may lose your deposit at Pomona, but in the grand scheme of things it isnt as bad as not taking the opportunity to study what you truely wish to study. This is also all assuming youve visited both school and enjoy the environment. Also… Can you afford UCI without drowning in debt?

I will be able to afford UCI, and if I need to, I wouldn’t mind taking a loan. I consider myself good with “not spending money,” so I feel confident that I will be able to handle it. I paid my SIR to Pomona, as well. However, when I filled out the UCI appeal letter, I was told that they would let me know on august 15th on whether or not my appeal worked. Not sure if I’m misinterpreting it though. Pomona and UCI have very different campuses, and I really do like UCI’s campus quite a bit. Pomona’s campus isn’t bad, just located in a more rural location. Also, it looks like my local CC does offer the prereq courses, according to the assist.org website. Thanks for the advice!

Comparatively, do you know how CPP engineering is compared to UCI engineering? Also, I did get into UCR for bioengineering, but I’ve heard that CPP is better…

Don’t worry about which is better. Their reputations are comparable enough that it there isn’t a significant difference.
If you really want to major in bioengineering, and got a direct admit to UCR for that program, you should head there and study what you want. .

Completely agree with @NCalRent. UCR is a well respected UC and their engineering program is smaller in comparison to UCI’s program. You will get smaller class sizes and more individual attention. Always go for the direct admit if that is what you want to pursue.

I see… I’m not sure about how much I’d like UCR’s campus, but I do like CPP’s campus quite a bit. I see what you mean by studying what I like, so I suppose CC might be a good option. My dream school has always been UCSD, so transferring doesn’t seem bad

just know that transferring into UCSD for a hard science is SUPER competitive. Like 3.8+

you can use that tool to see the transfer GPA by major for each UC.
