Cal Poly Pomona Vs CC transfer

I'm deciding between whether to attend CPP or CC for fall, my major is mechanical engineering so I know that CPP will offer me a great education, but I just keep thinking I can go higher by taking the CC route.
It was a bummer for me since I had a decent hs GPA but really bad SAT/ACT, only got into UCR as far as UCs go, but I keep wishing to go to UCLA or UCSD for mechanical. I just can't decide between them as both have great pros and cons.
If you guys have any other input such as school options or paths, feel free to leave a comment!

If finances are not an issue, I see no downside to starting at Cal Poly Pomona, and then transferring if you are not happy there. Who knows? You may end up very happy there!

thanks for the reply shellz, what are my options for transferring out if that end up being the case? I think all UCs are dead end in terms of transfer for me as soon as I go into CPP, so are my choices limited to privates and SLO?

I’m really not sure why you would want to transfer. CPP has one of the best engineering programs around. Some say better than SLO. And the cost is (comparatively) very low.

If UCs take CC transfers, they surely will take a CSU transfer, I would think. Do well in your classes, and let the chips fall where they may. You may want to check out the degree requirements for the schools you think you may want to transfer to before choosing classes at CPP, and choose accordingly. That way if you do transfer, you will not lose any credits. CPP is a great school! Go in with the expectation that you will like it, and I think you will surprise yourself. Really :)

While you’ve got a point - transferring from a CC to a top UC is easier than it is from CPP - transferring as a Jr is as competitive as freshman admission. I think you’d be better served by committing to 4 years and a degree at CPP.

seems like everyone is in favor of me going to CPP, just wished I could’ve worked harder few years ago. It’s really sad especially all my friends are either going to privates or high-end UCs

Then you will shine at CPP!

On the other hand, there are many very smart students for whom CPP is the first choice. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Do you want the social aspect of leaving home and living on campus in a dorm? If so, I would do CPP. You could also do a year working/volunteering/studying for higher SAT/ACT scores and then reapplying in the Fall to the UC of your choice. Good luck! You have good options with CPP regardless.

I’m adding another option: UC Riverside, these are my three choices right now and I really couldn’t set my mind on any…

Both (CPP and UCR) are fine schools. Spend some time on both campuses, talk to some students as they wander by. Attend the one that feels most like home.
