Cal Poly Pomona Transfer Advice needed

Hello, I am a student who will be transferring in to CPP in the Fall and wanted to know if anyone had advice for as far as transitioning into upper-division courses and also switching from semester into a quarter system. Also what activities or events are cool to get into at Cal Poly, including the work-study programs and what the process is for getting into that. Also I heard about the new facility with all the athletic amenities, new gym, weight room, etc. How is it?

I’d take a light courseload your first semester if you can to transition. I had a very rough transition coming from community college to university my first quarter.

I can’t speak to the work-study and athletic amenities as I was not present when the BRC was finished.

I enjoyed my Cal Poly experience.

@CalDud Is the campus crowded? like when you were there in the middle of the day did it seem overwhelming with people or was it a chill environment?

The campus was very heavily crowded in the middle of the day. Some days, like Fridays, not so much. It sucked to try to get food.

Sometimes the campus is literally dead. It becomes more chill during the evenings when people go home. I think the campus is more enjoyable at night. I stayed often to study in the library with friends. Sometimes hanged out just around campus.

But yeah, it can get pretty infested with people. Too much during the day sometimes I feel like. Enrollment is around 30K at the time I was going, I think.

Mondays were the worst people-wise.

@CalDud Thanks for the insight to campus life, much appreciated. I definitely prefer the chill vibe when there is still people on campus but not overwhelming with people, Guess I will have to avoid the heavy crowds during the day. What do you mean you had a rough transition? was it because semester to quarter system was different? I will take your advice and take a light course load, but i also don’t want to be behind on graduating on time.
