I am currently a community college student majoring in physics interested in transferring either to Cal Poly Pomona or Cal State Fullerton and was wondering which school has the better physics program? I was told by a counselor that CSU Fullerton has the more well known program, but I would like more solid information on the matter before deciding on a school please.

For hard science like Physics - it’s a wash.

Apply to both, spend some time on both campuses and make the decision in the Spring.

Probably Fullerton, it’s good for most sciences. Cal Poly is better for engineering.

talk to your physics profs and see what they think. They probably know people that teach at both programs and have heard what their friends say about their programs.

In general, a thing you can do is to look how many Physics Professors there are at each college. If they are significantly different, that will give you a clue.

I took a few physics classes at Cal Poly Pomona. They were decent courses. I would think Cal Poly Pomona would have more portability as a name rather than Cal State Fullerton. I only know Fullerton has a decent business program. In terms of engineering or science, I think Cal Poly is the way to go. I think the recruitment may be better. If you’re not doing badly in your courses at Cal Poly, JPL actively recruits from Cal Poly Pomona.

I’m no college pro like everyone else, but I am a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona and from what I could tell any science is CPP’s strong point. Yes, engineering more so, but it’s a sciency school in general. I do agree that I believe the name and Cal Poly reputation is better and more recognizable even if it’s not SLO. It’s a great campus out here, don’t underestimate it. I’ll admit, some of the reviews make it sound like crap, but it’s not!
