I was curious as to what UCs Cal Poly Pomona compares to for Computer Science. I am struggling choosing between CPP and UCI. I am leaning towards CPP because it will be cheaper and less of a financial burden. However, I dont want to go to CPP if its cs program is on the same level as UCR for example. As a result, what UCs can CPP be compared to?
Check ABET accreditation for all schools of interest which means there is a standard teaching curriculum. Also compare the courses between schools to see if they are similar in scope and your interests.
It depend on what you want to get after getting bachelor degree. If you want to get job after graduation that CPP is good school which will help you prepare necessary skills (more lab technical and experiment, internship). While UC system usually will teach academic to lead you to graduate school ( I mean more theory and research paper during studying in there). Depend on the goal you want to get after graduation. Good luck!
Honestly, I’m interviewing at Google without a CS background (not entry level) and I went to Cal Poly Pomona. You should be able to get the fundamentals from either school, but you should do your homework in understanding how the interviews are structured and practice accordingly. I was given an advice packet from a Google recruiter telling me how people would prep for these interviews and told me what resources were commonly used/cited as an aide to the process.
But I’m also in graduate school right now (working as an SE and not in California) and plan to center my research around AI. School’s CS program isn’t as well ranked as UCI, but you have to realize that a lot of top tech companies don’t really care about your pedigree. They care about what you can do and proving it.
