I posted the same question in a different section but I’m worried it will never see the light of day so I’m reposting haha
Hey folks I’m a CS student in Cal poly Pomona and I quite like the school so far.
I’m planning to enter the workforce immediately after getting my BS degree if I can but;
I keep hearing that CPP falls behind other schools like UCI and SLO so I’m beginning to regret declining UCI (just a tad)
thinking the chances of landing a job after graduating will be slim.
So here’s the question.
Is Cal Poly Pomona’s CS program good enough that I have a chance of becoming hired?
Or should I transfer once money is no longer an issue?
I’m not looking for a ridiculously high leveled job at places such as Google or microsoft, (not yet anyway);
just places where I can put what I learned to use (and improve) without starving to death.
Thank you
p.s if anyone thinks I should try posting this in a different forum please say so
Before you transfer from a school you like on the basis that employers might not hire you, wouldn’t it make more sense to actually apply to relevant internships to see if you can get a position? Don’t limit yourself to just the SoCal market. By the way, does your school offer any part time work study jobs pertaining to the fields of IT, development, or research?

Of course it is. The Cal Polys are highly respected for their STEM programs.
You are worrying about nothing. CPP is well respected by employers.
Of course it is. Work hard, ask questions whenever you can, go to office hours, don’t hesitate to ask for help, get involved in clubs/music ensembles/activities/student senate, know your way around the career center early on and be ready to apply for internships (resume, interview skills, etc) as early as possible… and you’ll be hired in a snap One thing you must absolutely do is take the 4 year pledge and stick to it, because very few students graduate on time otherwise.
Why did you choose CPP in the first place? There are reasons, they’re still there.
Whether other schools you’ve heard of are better doesn’t matter if you declined them anyway… you SIR’ed at CPP, give it a chance.
If you feel like transfering after 3 semesters, apply to UCI or Cal Poly SLO CS.
Yes, I’ve worked with someone who graduated from CPP CS and she was very good. She ended up managing a lot of UCs. Same with CSULB, they were more knowledge than the UCLA. But she has more experience than the guys from UCs. But the guy from CSLB has equal experience to the guys from UCLA.
Ty ty. Of course i plan to apply for internships. N cpp have some internship opportunities but nowhere near the amount of ucs. Tat was one of my worries.
Anyway, im enrolled in 4tr pledge so (assuming i dont fail classes) i should be able to get classes.
Thank you for your replies. Keep them coming.
That’s not always true. Most of the kids from UCs don’t have internships either. My daughter knows one with almost 4.0 GPA at UCSB and last I’ve heard he hasn’t got one for CS.
