Its wonderful that she received a spot! We can question the why’s and the why nots until we are blue in the face. The process, even with an algorithm, is crap shoot. Best of luck to her!

@moholoe:
Quote from SLO’s appeal page:

Neither grades received in the current academic year nor mistakes made by the applicant on the application are a basis for an appeal or the reversal of a decision.

Stats are GPA 4.7 w, ACT 34.

Have to express the frustration with the “algorithmic” process given the stats of some admitted are comparable or lesser (exaple: posts 413,550,1067). Congrats to all who have been accepted, regardless.
To those who truly want to attend SLO, dont settle for the “participation trophy” they handed you, pursue the appeal. It’s a long shot, yes but I have been down this path. Denied at Cal Poly Pomona, appealed, accepted then finished in the top of my class, Architecture 88.
Best of luck to all.

Major: CS

MCA ~ 4200 (SAT 1520, Cal Poly GPA 3.25, Full Rigor)

Congrats to all who were accepted.

I’m not surprised for the rejection always considered it a reach. He’s been accepted to 4 schools so far and waiting on UC’s.

Congrats randomkid98!!! Thanks for the reply!

Biochemistry Major
3.82 Calpoly GPA
1490 SAT

@eyemgh Unless I calculated wrong. She received 0 points for science, math and English electives. 3.6 GPA 26 ACT 1190 SAT. Only 2 AP classes. I’m wondering if she received extra points for her college classes?

So sorry soccerfan10! Biochemistry is very competitive and I am sure you will end up in the right spot!

Any major which requires a portfolio obviously relies on more than just stats.

I am thankful that my child got accepted. I still don’t understand why students with much better stats did not get in. Maybe she got in because her major isn’t related to math/science or engineering.

@Gumbymom so let’s say your grades increase dramatically senior year, you can’t use that as a reasoning behind your appeal?

Rejected for biological science

ACT: 30
GPA: 4.12
UW GPA: 3.81
No AP
Major Award(s): $2,500 scholarship from attorney general’s contest

@collegegirl5824: I am going by what SLO states on their website. “” neither grades received in the current academic year" would mean Senior year grades, correct?

I have been following the SLO Decision threads for 5 years now and I have never seen CC poster state they got in by appeal. I believe it is worth a try if you feel strongly about attending SLO.

@raisinsmith one semester of college courses counts as two semesters of rigor in Cal Poly’s eyes. Also, did she really have no course rigor points? That would mean she only took six semesters/three years of math in her four years of high school (and potentially jr high), only four total semesters of science, and two years of foreign language, is that right?

@jayphoto yes only 3 years of math, 3 years of science, 4 years of foreign language but she took 2 years of psychology for college credit (1 regular class and 1 AP) and 2 AP classes, lots of art classes and like I said, college courses in her major (which did not require a portfolio) and the max amount of extra curriculars with leadership positions and max hours worked (with 25% of hours in her field). Good to know that college courses count for double the number of semesters.

I’m looking the stats for acceptances in college of engineering, and I noticed some with high stats were rejected for more popular majors like biomedical and mechanical. Is this the same case for Electrical Engineering?
